In casting Dragons Love Tacos, Virginia Repertory Theatre endeavors to be as inclusive as possible. We invite all performers, including gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors, to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
Boy A kid who is struggling with a very difficult math problem right before dinner and ends up discovering all about dragons and their love of tacos during a homework break. Speaks a few lines, but mostly performs through mime and movement. (This role will be cast with an adult actor of any gender)
Leroy, A Dog Boy's faithful, upbeat, and supportive canine companion who is ready for anything and tries to help Boy however he can. Portrayed by an onstage puppeteer.
Man in Suit The rather knowledgeable narrator of a 24-part documentary series about dragons that Boy and Leroy stumble across while flipping channels on the TV. This character has almost all of the spoken dialogue.
The Dragons Large beasts who end up in Boy's House where they are united through their love for tacos and their intolerance of spicy salsa. Red Dragon — a cheerful and friendly dragon who makes themself at home White Dragon — a rather energetic dragon Blue Dragon — a somewhat overwhelmed and fearful dragon Yellow Dragon — a silly and tricky dragon
Spanish speakers especially encouraged to audition.
Also seeking understudies for the above roles.
