Scoop: Coming Up on a New Episode of THE CIRCUS on Showtime - Sunday, September 23, 2018
With the vote on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination delayed, prominent political strategist and commentator Steve Schmidt (who helped guide the confirmation of two Supreme Court justices) joins the hosts of THE CIRCUS on the next episode, "Burden of Proof," as they talk with key players in the process, including Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. THE CIRCUS continues this Sunday, September 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
Sunday's episode follows the standoff between the Senate Judiciary Committee and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the California professor accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault in high school, an allegation Kavanaugh denies. Having worked to confirm Supreme Court Justice nominations for previous Republican administrations, Schmidt gives context on how Senate Republicans, Democrats and the Trump Administration are responding to the accusations. Throughout the episode, THE CIRCUS explores the parallels between the current showdown and the 1991 testimony of Anita Hill during the confirmation process of Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. Amid the #MeToo movement and looming midterm elections, the battle puts the actions of Republicans and Democrats under a microscope.
THE CIRCUS features John Heilemann, co-author of the New York Times best-sellers Game Change and Double Down, noted campaign strategist Mark McKinnon, and Alex Wagner, an Emmy®-nominated television journalist, author, national correspondent for CBS News and contributing editor at The Atlantic. THE CIRCUS is produced by Left/Right, a RED ARROW Studios company, for SHOWTIME. John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, Alex Wagner, Banks Tarver, Ken Druckerman, Ted Bourne and Tom Johnson serve as executive producers.
