Page 73 Productions Announces Playwrights for 2013 Interstate 73 Group

Interstate 73, Page 73 Productions' writers group supporting early-career playwrights, where selected playwrights meet biweekly to share new pages with their peers and Page 73's Executive and Associate Directors, will welcome Stephen Brown, Meghan Deans, Peter Gil-Sheridan, David Jenkins, Kait Kerrigan, EM Lewis and Caroline V. McGraw (who was also selected as the 2013 P73 Playwriting Fellow) into the group this year.

The application for Page 73's 2014 development programs, including Interstate 73, the P73 Playwriting Fellowship, and the Page 73 Summer Residency at Yale, will become available online February 1st at www.page73.org.

Each writer will receive a reading of his or her work over the course of the year.

Stephen Brown's work has been seen or developed with Primary Stages, Theatre at St. Clements, ESPA/59E59, Access Theatre, and the Kennedy Center Playwrights Intensive. He has been a semi-finalist for the O'Neill Playwrights Conference, the P73 Playwriting Fellowship, the Ars Nova Playgroup, and the Lark Playwrights Week.

Meghan Deans is the author of the plays ASHORE, INTERNET FAMOUS, and THE LAST INVENTION. She is the recipient of an E.S.T./Sloan grant, an alumna of Ensemble Studio Theatre's Youngblood Writers Group, and was a finalist for the 2011 Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission. She also writes recaps of X-Files episodes for Tor.com and lyrics for songs about World's Fairs.

Peter Gil-Sheridan is a multidisciplinary artist whose plays include THE DEADLY BELLES, EVERYDAY I WAKE THE FOOL, GLOW, VANISHING SON, and TOPSY TURVY MOUSE which has been produced by Cherry Lane Theatre (mentor: Michael Weller).

David Jenkins is a New York based playwright, producer, and founding member / Artistic Director of Human Animals. His first play, MIDDLEMEN, was produced in New York in 2009 (Human Animals). His latest play POST OFFICE, was named one of "The Top Ten Off-Off Broadway Productions of 2011" by Paper Magazine. Other plays include: SMALL CLAIMS and LAISSEZ-FAIRE.

Kait Kerrigan is a Brooklyn-based playwright, lyricist, and bookwriter. In 2006, her musical HENRY AND MUDGE was produced by Theatreworks USA, and went on to win her the Kleban Award for Most Promising Librettist. Her plays include DISASTER RELIEF, IMAGINARY LOVE, TRANSIT and WE HAVE TO HOLD HANDS. Her musicals, written with composer Brian Lowdermilk, include THE UNAUTHORIZED AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF Samantha Brown, TALES FROM THE BAD YEARS, THE WOMAN UPSTAIRS, WRONG NUMBER, and THE FRESHMAN EXPERIMENT.

EM Lewis received a 2012 Fellowship in Playwriting from the New Jersey Council for the Arts, and the 2010­?2011 Hodder Fellowship at Princeton University. She won the 2009 Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award for SONG OF EXTINCTION and the 2008 Primus Prize for HEADS from the American Theater Critics Association.

Caroline V. McGraw is the 2013 P73 Playwriting Fellow and a 2012 graduate of Yale School of Drama. Her plays include THE BACHELORS, THE VAULTS, TALL SKINNY CRUEL CRUEL BOYS, DEBUT TRACK ONE CHORD ONE VERSE ONE (OR, THE SHED), THE KING IS DEAD, and TRADE. Her writing has been produced and developed around the country, including at the Cherry Lane Theatre by Young Playwrights Inc., the Abingdon by Highwire Theatre, Yale Cabaret, American University's New Works Series, the Cleveland Play House Next Stage Festival, F*It Club/Interborough Rep, WordBRIDGE Playwrights Laboratory, AracaWorks, Theatre4, the Intiman Theatre Festival/One Coast Collaboration, the Amoralists, Portland Center Stage, and Washington Ensemble Theatre.

PAGE 73 Productions - under the leadership of Executive Directors Liz Jones and Asher Richelli and Associate Director Michael Walkup - develops and produces the work of early-career playwrights who have yet to have their work professionally produced in New York. Page 73 produces at least one New York or world premiere by an early-career playwright each year. Page 73 also offers production-oriented development opportunities that help usher the works of early-career playwrights from first draft to final script. In addition to the Interstate 73 writers group, the company also hosts the P73 Playwriting Fellowship, offering a cash grant and a year of support to one early-career playwright; the Page 2 Workshop, offering extensive rehearsal and technical support to plays in development; and a weeklong Summer Residency at Yale for four playwrights.

Page 73's first production of 2013 will be SLEEPING ROUGH by Kara Manning, directed by Tony-nominee Sam Buntrock. Page 73 produced the world premieres of ELLIOT, A SOLDIER'S FUGUE by Quiara Alegría Hudes, directed by Davis McCallum (2007 Pulitzer finalist and prequel to Quiara's 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning play WATER BY THE SPOONFUL), SIXTY MILES TO SILVER LAKE by Dan LeFranc directed by Anne Kauffman and co-produced with Soho Rep (2010 New York Times Playwriting Award); CREATURE by Heidi Schreck, directed by Leigh Silverman and co-produced with New Georges; JACK'S PRECIOUS MOMENT by Samuel D. Hunter directed by Kip Fagan and EDGEWISE by Eliza Clark directed by Trip Cullman and co-produced with The Play Company, as well as the New York premieres of 1001 by Jason Grote, directed by Ethan McSweeney (Time Out New York - Top 10) and LIDLESS by Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig, directed by Tea Alagic. The company received from the League of Professional Theatre Women their 2008 Lucille Lortel Award for "innovative and creative work dedicated to the emerging dramatist".
