New Light Theater Project Announces 2019/2020 Season

New Light Theater Project announces their 7th season with two NYC premieres and a remount of last spring's sold-out run of IMAGINING MADOFF.

Kicking off the new season is a limited engagement of Deb Margolin's IMAGINING MADOFF, with direction from Jerry Heymann. The production will run October 17 - November 9 at the Lion Theatre at Theatre Row. Called "So engrossing and philosophically lively...exquisite" by The New Yorker, the play finds Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff in prison, determined to control his own narrative for history as he dictates to a visiting biographer stories about his childhood, his family, women, money and an all-night meeting he had with Holocaust survivor and poet, Solomon Galkin. New Light Theater Project re-teams with Stable Cable Lab Co for the rolling world premiere of EVERYTHING IS SUPER GREAT by Stephen Brown with direction by Sarah Norris. A typical day in the life of Tommy involves triple shot lattes, pining over the manager at Starbucks and arson at Applebee's. Such distractions are therapeutic when your older brother has been missing for months and your mom won't stop force-feeding you Pop Tarts. But when a well-meaning, if somewhat dysfunctional, "art therapist" shows up on his doorstep, Tommy must finally face his loss. EVERYTHING IS SUPER GREAT explores the different ways we cope with grief, and how letting someone in helps us let something go. The play runs November 22 - December 14. Venue announcement and ticketing info will be announced soon.

Winner of the 2019-2020 New Light New Voices Award is Andrew Rincón for his play I WANNA FUCK LIKE ROMEO AND JULIET. With direction by Jesse Jou, the production will run in late spring of 2020, venue to be announced. Snow in July, comets falling from the sky, the world is thrown into chaos as Cupid rips off her wings and gives up on Love. But her old flame Saint Valentine has a plan to bring her spirits back up; and it involves the relationship between two men, Alejandro and Benny. Moving from outer space to Hackensack NJ, I WANNA FUCK LIKE ROMEO AND JULIET is a Queer Love story of epic proportions that investigates God and mortals, realism and fantasy and the shame and joy within Queer love of Color.
