EDINBURGH 2019: Review: TOM LENK IS TRASH, Assembly

EDINBURGH 2019: Review: TOM LENK IS TRASH, Assembly Tom Lenk is an Instagram sensation perhaps best known for his 'Lenk Lewk For Less' posts where he creates replica red carpet outfits from whatever he has lying around the house.

It's an unusual format for a fringe show as its a mix of stand-up, onstage crafting and a slideshow of his favourite lewks. We were advised to lower our expectations early on as the show is quite literally, trash. It's funny and silly and thoroughly entertaining.

There's a little bit of background as to how he got involved with making these outfits and references to the 'tidying up' sensation that encourages you to remove all trash from your life. Lenk's approach is more that if something doesn't spark joy- turn it into something else that does. He's a warm and engaging host for the evening and the time just flies by.

I'm normally completely averse to any kind of audience participation but it is all done in such good spirits. We're all given pipe cleaners and talked through crafting something together. I don't mean to brag but Lenk did tell me that I was 'winning at life' with my effort at a rose.

Tom Lenk Is Trash is messy, trashy and wonderful. I'm pretty sure there's nothing else quite like it at the festival!
