BIO:
Raúl Vargas – Vocals, Cajón and Composer From Madrid, he was nourished with Spanish artforms until age 20 when he left Spain to gather musical influences from around the world for six years, learning guitar, cajón, different percussion techniques, didjeridoo and other instruments. After playing with groups such as “Venus in Spurs” and “Fulanos,” in 2006 he created “La Malamaña,” a musical/circus/theater group that was a totally innovative concept in San Francisco. The musical component of “La Malamaña” would evolve into “Makrú.” Martina Castro – Vocals and Palmas Born in the United States to parents from Uruguay, she trained in classical voice for six years. Afterwards she sang as a soprano in various choirs and a capella groups. When she arrived in San Francisco in 2008, she began to sing tango and Latin American folk music, and joined Makrú in 2011. Anthony Jesus Sierra – Percussion San Francisco native-born to a Cuban father and Puerto Rican mother, he grew up listening to cuban music, jazz and classic funk from the 70's. He started playing percussion when he was 14 years old and the rest is history. He has had the pleasure to share the stage with John Calloways Afro Cuban ensemble, Locura, Makrú, La Gente, Los Pinguos and eSFunk. He is currently studying percussion with maestro Sandy Perez and plans on continuing his musical training at Berklee Music College in Boston. Vinicio Peñate – Electric and Upright Bass aised both in El Salvador and the United States, was the bassist of "La Sexta Virgada” and “La Malamaña,” and now brings his latin-american flavor to Makrú. Bob Sanders – Electric and Acoustic Lead Guitar From California, he was invited to Spain through the captivating world of flamenco guitar. He is also the guitarist in bands such as “LoCura” and “Alma Melodiosa.” Isaac Weiser ”Fantasma” – Melódica and Flute From Washington State, a prodigious multi-instrumentalist born in a musical family, has been part of several bands like “Yogo Man Burning Man, “LoCura,” and “Pleasure Maker Band,” and is also a sound engineer.
