JOE D'AMICO

Joe D’Amico’s new album, A Short Time’s A Long Time (January 2013) once again finds him outside his comfort zone, this time working closely with his band experimenting with different and longer song formats. Sonically rich and full of melodic instruments and vocal harmonies, the album draws from a wide pallet of rock and folk, combining ideas from past to present into a beautiful 10 track album. Lyrically Joe focuses on the transition from 20’s to 30’s, becoming a father, and the joy, anxiety and perspective that have come with these changes. The songs develop both individually and together as an album, and are fully realized and driven by his band. The recording sessions were engineered and produced by Joe at various locations throughout the Philadelphia area, at his home and the homes of his band members, and at MilkBoy Studios in Philadelphia. The album was mixed by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog) at Waking Studio in Philadelphia. From his beginnings as a founding member of Philadelphia’s Brothers Past, to the years he has spent developing his now well established American roots band Mason Porter, to his various solo projects including the current Joe D’Amico Band, Joe never stops finding new environments to be creative and he continues to evolve as a musician and songwriter with each new project. With his 2011 album Asleep In My Shoes, Joe entered a new phase of songwriting and recording and the album was met with critical praise and significant AAA radio support from WXPN, WFUV and others. Placing it as his #1 album of the year, journalist Michael Buckley (WRNR FM, The Capitol) called the album “expansive and beautifully sketched”. Philadelphia Weekly’s Bill Chenevert described the record as “dynamic, dark and introspective”. The title track, “Asleep In My Shoes” won the 2011 Philadelphia Songwriters Project annual songwriting competition. Joe has recently shared the stage with folk icons such as David Bromberg and Dr. Ralph Stanley. His song “Slow and Steady” is featured in the indie film Lebanon, PA, which has received attention from NPR and nationally at film festivals. Joe performs both solo and with the Joe D’Amico Band. The current lineup (since 2011) is Bethany Brooks (keyboards, vocals), Phil D’Agostino (bass), Brad Hinton (guitar, lap steel, vocals) and Kevin Killen (drums).
