We've heard her musical chops in the big screen adaptation of 'Mamma Mia' and will soon hear her sing once again in the highly anticipated Disney film 'Into the Woods.' But according to today's Hollywood Reporter, Oscar winner Meryl Streep will go one better in her upcoming film for Diablo Cody - she will learn how to play guitar!

According to the report, Streep will portray " a struggling rocker who attempts to reconcile with her neglected kids, one of whom is played by Streep's real-life daughter, Mamie Gummer" in the new film titled RICKI AND THE FLASH.

Scribe Diablo Cody explains to THR, "The reason we haven't shot the movie yet is Meryl's been learning to play. Watching her come along has been really inspiring."

Cody adds that it was the film's director Jonathan Demme who insisted on the authenticity of the movie's musical performances. "Everything you hear, the band has to play and Meryl has to play." She also reveals that along with classic rock, Streep's character may stray into other musical directions. "You might hear some Lady Gaga in there," she says.

Streep's character is based in part on Cody's mother-in-law who herself was the frontwoman for a New Jersey bar band. "I watched her on stage so many times, and I thought to myself, 'This woman's life is a movie,' " Cody says.

Production on the film will get underway in New York on October 1st.
