Benjamin Walker to Star in U.S. Premiere of AMERICAN PSYCHO: THE MUSICAL?

Deadline reports exclusively that Benjamin Walker, star of Broadway's 'Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson' has landed the lead role in the U.S. premiere of AMERICAN PSYCHO: The Musical.

The actor will star as Patrick Bateman, a role which was portrayed by Christian Bale in the 2000 film. Doctor Who's Matt Smith took on the role in the London world premiere of the show which was mounted last December at the Almeida Theatre, with music by Duncan Sheik, book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and staging by Rupert Goold.

According to the report, the production, possibly bound for Broadway, will begin performances at New York's Second Stage off Broadway theater in February 2015 and open in March from LA-based film Act 4 Entertainment by special arrangement with Edward R. Pressman.

Walker recently displayed his singing chops in the Hollywood Bowl's production of 'Hair.' In 2007, he performed in the Broadway revival of Inherit The Wind, starring Christopher Plummer, Brian Dennehy, and Denis O'Hare, under the direction of Doug Hughes. In 2008, he performed in Roundabout Theatre's production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses opposite Laura Linney, which was nominated for six Tony awards.

He played the title role in the Alex Timbers' musical, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, in the show's world premiere at the Kirk Douglas Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson re-opened in New York to rave reviews and Benjamin returned in the starring role of Andrew Jackson. Benjamin most recently starred in Timur Bekmambetov'sAbraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for 20th Century Fox and producer Tim Burton, in which he played Lincoln, based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith of the same name. He will next be seen in HBO's "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight" as Kevin Kennedy, a Supreme Court clerk who wrote the legal briefs resulting in the guarantee of Ali's status as a conscientious objector.

Walker's most recent Broadway appearance was in the revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, starring Scarlett Johansson.
