BOZ SCAGGS
TUESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2017 at 8 P.M.
TICKETS: $49-$69
"I'm at a point where I'm having a lot of fun with music, more than ever," Boz Scaggs says about his spellbinding album, A Fool to Care. "It's like I'm just going wherever I want to go with it." You can hear that sense of fun, as well as that ability and willingness to wander in any musical direction when Boz returns to Luther Burbank Center for the Arts on August 1. The inspirational heart of his new album lies in the sounds of Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma that played such a vital role in shaping Scaggs' musical sensibility, but they venture forth boldly from there, ranging from the seductive New Orleans rumble of the title track to the wry social commentary of "Hell to Pay" and a heartbreakingly wistful interpretation of The Band's "Whispering Pines." Fans who have followed Scaggs' remarkable career dating back to the late sixties with the Steve Miller Band; his solo triumphs with such classic albums as Silk Degrees (1976) and Middle Man (1980); and the splendid assurance of late-period high points like Some Change (1994) and Dig (2001), will instantly appreciate Scaggs' characteristically deft touch as a singer. With hits such as "It's Over," "Lowdown," "What Can I Say," "Lido Shuffle," "Harbor Lights" and (from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack) "Look What You've Done to Me," it's sure to be a good time!

Colbie Caillat
SUNDAY, AUGUST 6, 2017 at 7 P.M.
TICKETS: $55-$65
Colbie Caillat is a two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who has sold over six million albums and ten million singles worldwide. Her breakthrough hit "Bubbly" remains "one of the best-selling digital tracks in history" and her multi-platinum debut COCO hit #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, while her gold-selling sophomore set Breakthrough landed at #1. 2011's All of You yielded the gold "I Do" and platinum "Brighter Than The Sun," which enjoyed over twenty film and television placements.

In 2014, Caillat released her fourth full-length album, Gypsy Heart, which landed in the Top 20 of Billboard's Top 200 Chart fueled by the strength of her gold-selling single "Try." Co-written by legendary producer and singer-songwriter, Babyface, "Try" became one of the biggest performing songs featured as iTunes "Single Of The Week." Quickly amassing nearly 40 million YouTube/VEVO views, the single's inspirational companion video became a global viral sensation and reached the #1 spot on the iTunes Video Chart. At radio, that success continued as the song went Top 10 at Hot AC. The album also drew widespread acclaim from People, Marie Claire, Huffington Post, and many more, while she made appearances on Good Morning America, Meredith Vieira, Dancing with the Stars, The View, The Voice and more.

An international live draw, Caillat has played sold out venues everywhere alongside everybody from John Mayer to Sheryl Crow. Beyond music, she's an avowed spokesperson and supporter for ASPCA, Save The Music, Farm Sanctuary, and The Humane Society of the United States.

THE 42ND ANNUAL SAN FRANCISCO COMEDY COMPETITION SEMI-FINALS
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2017 at 8 P.M.
TICKETS: $46
The San Francisco Comedy Competition is one of the most prestigious comedy contests in North America-launching the careers of people like Ellen Degeneres and Louis CK. It's an outrageously funny evening where you will see the comedy stars of tomorrow competing for their chance at fame and fortune.

Hundreds of comedians audition each year to compete in the San Francisco International Stand Up Comedy Competition. Only 30 are chosen.

In its first year, Robin Williams came in 2nd.

Many talented comedians have since emerged from this annual event to become major stars. It could be argued that The Comedy Competition helps turn them into diamonds as it is a true contest that develops its contestants by forcing them to adjust to a variety of audiences-in Comedy Clubs, colleges, casinos and theaters-while enduring the strain of an extended road trip.

1977 Comedy Competition Champ Dana Carvey went on to "Saturday Night Live."1979 Champ Marsha Warfield went on to "Night Court" to star as Roz the bailiff. 1982 finalist Kevin Pollak has achieved a major film career, as has 1987 finalist Rob Schneider.

Two first runners up-Ellen Degeneres in 1985 and Mark Curry in 1989-landed their own TV series. Fame has not always come quickly but eventually as in the case of 1991 finalist Louis C.K. who now claims the ultimate credit: a self-titled TV series.

With this history and much more, the San Francisco Comedy Competition has a well-earned reputation as an important showcase of young entertainers who will make it.
