Cast, Creatives Announced for San Diego Musical Theatre's 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL

San Diego Musical Theatre (SDMT) today announced the cast and creative team for the San Diego regional premiere of 9 to 5: The Musical.

Based on the seminal hit film, 9 to 5 features music and lyrics by Grammy Award-Winner Dolly Parton, book by Patricia Resnick, direction by Cynthia Ferrer and choreography by Tamlyn Shusterman. Performances run February 10 - 26 at the historic Spreckels Theatre. Press opening is Saturday, February 11th at 8:00 p.m.

A hilarious musical adaptation of the film starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and legendary composer and lyricist Dolly Parton, 9 to 5 follows three female co-workers pushed the boiling point with their sexist and egotistical boss. Together these unlikely partners conspire to take control of the office and achieve the ultimate workplace revenge. 9 to 5 is a jubilant musical about friendship and getting ahead in the Rolodex era of the late 1970s.

The show features Dolly Parton's original hit title song, 9 to 5 which won garnered her an Oscar nomination and multiple Grammy Award nominations. The Tony and Grammy nominated score of 9 to 5 contains 18 original Dolly Parton numbers, including Backwoods Barbie, Shine Like the Sun, Get Out and Stay Out, and Let Love Grow.

"We are thrilled to start our 2017 season of musicals at the beautiful Spreckels Theatre with a show that delights audiences and promotes female empowerment," shares SDMT Artistic Director Jill Townsend.

The exceptional cast is led by Joy Yandell as Violet Newstead, Allison Spratt Pearce (Sound of Music and White Christmas) as Judy Bernly, Karyn Overstreet as Doralee Rhodes, David Humphrey as Franklin Hart Jr., Candi Milo as Roz Keith, and Chaz Feuerstine as Joe.

Additional Cast includes: Danielle Airey, Scott Arnold, Jordi Bertran, Gerilyn Brault, Caitlyn Calfas, Ryan Dietrich, Steven Freitas, Donny Gersonde, Siri Hafso, Catie Marron, Shayne Mims, Paul Morgavo, Alex Nemiroski, Janissa Saracino, Kaleb Scott, Tara Shoemaker, Bethany Slomka, Kendra Truett, Wendy Waddell, and Austin Wright.

The creative team is comprised of Don LeMaster (Music Director), Tamlyn Shusterman (Choreographer), Christina J. Martin (Lighting Design), Janet Pitcher (Costume Designer), Kevin Anthenill (Sound Design), Rachel Hengst (Properties Design), Bret Young (Production Manager), Craig Campbell (Company Manager), and Stanley D. Cohen (Stage Manager).

Cynthia Ferrer (Director): Cynthia has played leading roles in three National Tours, over one-hundred musicals, and appeared on stage in almost every major theatre in the United States. She has worked with Garry Marshall, Paul Williams, Carol Burnett, Jennifer Garner, Michael Feinstein, The Nicholas Brothers, Onna White, Tommy Tune, Randy Skinner and Jeff Calhoun. She appeared in the feature films MOTHER'S DAY, VALENTINES DAY, and GEORGIA RULE, and on television she played roles in COUGARTOWN, CROSSING JORDAN, JUDGING AMY, PORT CHARLES and GENERAL HOSPITAL.

Performances run February 10 - 26, 2017 at the Spreckels Theatre in downtown San Diego.
