Faure Quartett to Make Orange County Debut at Segerstrom Center, 11/11

Segerstrom Center's Chamber Music Series continues on Wednesday, November 11 at 8 p.m. with leading piano ensemble, Faure? Quartett. For its Center debut, the quartet will perform Mozart's Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, K. 493, Martinu?'s Piano Quartet No. 1, H. 287 and music from its namesake, Gabriel Faure?'s Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 15. The Quartett, which includes Dirk Mommertz, piano; Erika Geldsetzer, violin; Sascha Fro?mbling, viola and Konstantin Heidrich, cello, is known for its adventurous repertory that pushes the boundaries of chamber music programming by spanning centuries and musical genres. To help enrich the experience for audiences, a free Preview Talk with musicologist and author Herbert Glass will take place at 7:15 p.m. in Samueli Theater.
Kretzer Piano Music Foundation to Welcome Lynn University's Conservatory of Music Woodwind Department, 9/15

Kathi Kretzer-Sayler, founder of the Kretzer Piano Music Foundation (KPMF) today announced it would be presenting in concert talented musicians from the only Conservatory of Music in South Florida.   Presented as part of KPMF's ongoing Music for the Mind series to benefit music education, the concert will feature professional level students from the Woodwind Department of the Lynn University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, who will perform works by Bach, Mozart, Villa-Lobo among others.   The student instrumentalists will perform on flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon, and are from the Studios of Lynn University faculty members Jeffrey Khaner, Joe Manasse, Joe Robinson and Eric Van der Veer Varner.

Canadian pianist Angela Cheng opens the Chamber Music Society of Detroit's third annual Oakland University season series Sunday, September 20 at 3 PM.  The concert takes place at Varner Recital Hall, located on the campus of Oakland University at 2200 N Squirrel Road in Rochester.  Ms. Cheng will perform Haydn's Sonata No. 60 in C major, Prokofiev's Sonata No. 2 in D minor, and three works by Chopin, the Polonaise-Fantasie, Op. 61 and Ballade Nos. 1 in G minor and 4 in F minor.  General admission tickets priced at $30 for adults and $15 for students are available by phone at 248-855-6070 or online at www.ChamberMusicDetroit.org.  Tickets may also be purchased at the Varner Recital Hall box office beginning one hour prior to performance.

BERKELEY, CA (UPDATED September 1, 2015) – Music Director Joana Carneiro and Berkeley Symphony have announced programming for the 2015-2016 season, including the West Coast premiere of Laterna Magica by Kaija Saariaho, who will be a visiting music professor at UC Berkeley this fall; the West Coast premiere of Mark Grey's new Frankenstein Symphony, co-commissioned with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; and the U.S. premiere of Fachwerk by Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina, featuring the Bay Area debut of Geir Draugsvoll, a pioneer of the bayan, or classical accordion, for whom the work was written. The Orchestra also welcomes soprano Simone Osborne, and violinist Simone Porter, both making their Bay Area debuts, in addition to a first-time Berkeley Symphony appearance by pianist Conrad Tao.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Board of Trustees has unanimously elected Devin McGranahan as Chair of the Board, succeeding Richard P. Simmons.  McGranahan's appointment will become effective September 21, 2015, at the Pittsburgh Symphony's Annual Meeting.  The Board also honored Simmons, naming him Board Chair Emeritus.
