CLEVELAND - The audited financial results of The Cleveland Orchestra's 2013-14 fiscal year were reported at the Annual Meeting of the Musical Arts Association on Tuesday evening, December 2. President of the Board of Trustees, Dennis W. LaBarre, announced a year-end budgetary surplus to the assembled Association members at the meeting in Severance Hall, the Orchestra's home concert hall since 1931. The Musical Arts Association is the non-profit organization that owns and operates The Cleveland Orchestra, Severance Hall, and Blossom Music Center. (more...)

8) Vermont Symphony Orchestra Hosts New Year's Eve Symphony Gala, 12/31

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra and the Champlain Valley Friends of the VSO will host a NEW YEAR'S EVE festive affair, Symphony Gala on Wednesday, December 31st in the Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in South Burlington. The Vermont Symphony Orchestra invites Vermonters to ring in the New Year while slipping into their dancing shoes and twirling on the dance floor to the music of the Vermont Jazz Ensemble. All proceeds from the event, Vermont's most elegant evening, will benefit Vermont Symphony Orchestra's artistic and educational musical programs throughout the state. The annual gala includes a cocktail reception with a Vermont Symphony Orchestra ensemble. An elegant dinner will follow. 9) Houston Symphony Orchestra & Filarmonica Joven de Colombia Team Up to Provide Training to Young Musicians

HOUSTON (December 2, 2014) - Today, the Houston Symphony announced a partnership with the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia (FJC) that will send fourteen Houston Symphony musicians to Colombia in June 2015 to mentor young musicians. Following this mentorship opportunity in Colombia, the Houston Symphony will host the Filarmonica Joven de Colombia in Houston for a 10-day residency that will include two side-by-side concerts for the young musicians with their Houston Symphony mentors playing Carmina Burana, conducted by Houston Symphony Music Director Andres Orozco-Estrada. Margaret Cafarelli, a real estate executive whose firm specializes in mixed-use urban development and investment, has been elected chair of the Board of Directors for the Music Academy of the West.
