Gallery has a history of supporting emerging playwrights, fostering play development and producing world premieres. Each year, previously unproduced plays are selected, the playwrights are paired with a director and actors, and the team begins the workshop process. Our playwright-focused festival aims to polish each play and create an exciting night of theatre, featuring a new group of plays each week over the three-week run.

22nd Annual Black Box New Play Festival Announced At The Gallery Players
January 09, 2019The Black Box New Play Festival is the Gallery Players' signature festival of new works by both new and established playwrights. Now in its 22nd year, the festival will premiere 11 new plays over the course of three weekends. The festival opens Thursday, January 10 and runs through January 27, with a new collection of plays presented each week. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30PM, and Sundays at 3PM. There will be a talk back with the playwrights directly after the Sunday matinees.

Residing in a 99-seat theater in Park Slope, Gallery Players has provided Brooklyn audiences with professional-quality theater since 1967. Beloved on both sides of the Brooklyn Bridge, Gallery is dedicated to producing classic and contemporary plays and musicals as well as premiering new works. Gallery Players’ season comprises three plays and three musicals, covering a remarkably wide range of dramatic and comedic styles; the annual Black Box New Play Festival, which gives premiere performances of new works by playwrights; Players’ Shakespeare; and Overtures: A New Musical Reading Series.
