Limited return engagement of The Umbrella Stage Company's audience favorite, re-staged with the original cast in its brand-new black box theater

The Umbrella Stage Company has announced an addition to the lineup of shows in its expanded 2019-2020 theater season. For one weekend only, Greater Bostons newest professional theater will present a special limited return engagement of the rollicking rock musical, Hedwig & the Angry Inch, directed by Julia Deter, produced by Brian Boruta, and starring Kirk Vanda.

This groundbreaking smash by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask tells the story of internationally ignored song stylist Hedwig Schmidt, a fourth-wall smashing, East German rock n roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation.

Outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious, the story is dazzlingly performed in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by the hard-rocking band The Angry Inch. Its a rocking ride, funny, touching, and, despite its quirky and singular protagonist ultimately relatable inspiring to anyone who has felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.

The show had been a sold-out audience favorite last season, when there had been limited capacity in the temporary Umbrella Annex black box theater, the Stage Company's temporary home while its current permanent theaters had been under construction.

ABOUT THE SEASON
The Umbrella Stage Company's expanded 2019-2020 season ranges from high-kicking spectacle to punk rock musical to socially urgent drama. With shows alternating between a 344-seat mainstage and flexible 100-seat blackbox, it will be the first season staged in The Umbrella Art Centers brand-new, state-of-the-art, multi-theater performing arts facilities at 40 Stow Street, in the heart of the historic Concord Center Cultural District. Season, Flex Pass, Group and Individual tickets are available, and patrons can make a night of it thanks to Dinner-and-a-Show deals offered by several Umbrella Hospitality Partners.
