The AMOUNT of time he was on air was not his choice. The idea of the host actually 'running' things is long dead.
Gee, thanks, CBS.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Here's a link to NPH's 11:00 number, for those like me who missed it. I was sitting in my car at 53rd and 6th waiting for my daughters to come out of Radio City so I could drive them home.
I wonder if they knew about the winners to be able to write his song? True most of the people mentioned in it were favorites, but you can NEVER be too sure.
I suppose this means NPH, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman were priviy to the winners prior to the evening's announcements? How fun (and I suppose anti-climatic) to know everything in advance.
He was charming and delightfully snarky, but I enjoyed Jackman's first go around and Whoopi last year just a bit more.
Last year's Tonys was generally a little more solid entertainment-wise, imo, what with the sound issues this year and some odd performance choices (love having more musical numbers, but the touring slots should have been given to Broadway, not touring shows. I would have rather had more screentime for the Best Play and Best Play Revival nominees and maybe a performance from 9 to 5 than three shows that have already been paraded in front of my face for months.)
Here's part of the story behind the closing number - when it was requested, when it was written, and some lines that didn't make the final cut. I posted this on another thread as well. The Story Behind the Closing Number
And I also said this on another thread, but since the "11:00 number" had to have alternate lyrics prepared ahead of time, Neil PH showed himself to be a truly gifted musician last night -- he muffed not-a-word, and I understood everything he sang.
What a pro. I'm his newest fan. Pretty good little singing voice, too.
I think he should be paired with Laura Benanti...she was a mad riot during the "pre-show" as host. The two of them together would be hoot....

For what little time he was on screen, he was good. I feel he could have used a cooky co-host to play off of his "straight-man" and some more stage time. The slightest tilt of his head made some of the jokes land which was great to see on TV but I'm unsure if that read as well in the massive RCMH.
I think it is a bit of an oversight to call him the "BEST HOST EVER" when we've had Hugh Jackman sing and dance his ass off, Angela Lansbury hosting or Bernadette Peters and Liza Minelli co-hosting.
This telecast was a step closer to the better quality ones of years past (2005, I'm talking about you), but a few more tweaks can be made. I think they should be moved back into a Broadway theater.
I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be allowed to adopt kids and we should all have hybrid cars doesn't mean I don't love America.

I vote for Neil Patrick Harris and Laura Benanti for 2010!!! I thought this year's broadcast was an improvement, but it felt slightly manic, maybe in tribute to N2N. It seems like there were too many performances, many of them flawed, with bad sound. I think the focus should be on quality not quantity.

Agreed. If not Laura, Chenoweth (I believe) is still a bankable commodity as a host and has proven wonderful chemistry with NPH.
Would also be fun to have a saucy older broad with him as well...
