Ok, well I'm not the type of guy that means to start speculative rumors, but I saw an interesting tidbit in the Delta Sky magazine today.
The focus of the magazine is on New York, and there was a section entitled "Broadway: Hollywood Hits the Stage" which listed a select 5 or 8 shows on Broadway right now.
In the paragraph about 9 to 5, it read: "Allison Janney stars in this adaption of the 1980 film. Music/lyrics by Dolly Parton. Marquis Theatre, through January 3, 2010."
So that made me wonder- was this merely a typo or error on Sky Magazine's part, or is there another show set on the Marquis in Spring 2010?
I mean, the date would make sense, given January 3rd is a Sunday, and that is a typical Broadway closing date... I personally hope its simply an error though, because I just saw the show this past weekend and was surprised how much I loved it, given all the hate for it on this board and with the critics.
And if you all are wondering if this is really legit, I don't have a link to the article directly since it was in a magazine and I just wrote down the information in my phone, but it was on page 44 of the magazine, and you can try and read it below if you'd like.

It wouldn't be Janney's last performance as the entire principle cast is currently contracted through September 6th.
They won't even start talking about renewing until late in the summer.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
The next block of tickets will problably go on sale in the near future.
"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott
This comes up a lot thee days and it creates a great deal of confusion. Theatres generally release tickets in blocks, 3-6 months in advance. The January 3 date for 9 TO 5 is probably the date in the press release indicating that the box office is taking bookings through January 3 and some misguided writer took that to mean the show was only playing until then.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Well I interpreted as the stars last day. Because on the Guys and Dolls one it says Oliver Platt and Lauren Grraham star in it through the 27th. And then I assume their replacement will take over. But thats how I think they ment for it to sound.

The Principal cast is signed for a year--starting from when 9 to 5 started their Bway rehearsals.....which was sometime in Feb 09.....Alison Janney has stated in many interviews that she is with the show for at least a year. The January date that you read really makes no sense...Maybe it was a misprint.
Well, it makes sense in the fact that its the last day tickets are currently being sold.

Everybody knows Delta Sky magazine always has the inside scoop. Before press agents contact Playbill, even, they tell the real story about closing dates and recasts to Delta Sky magazine, kind of like an out of town tryout away from the probing glare of the bigger media outlets.
The cast is contracted a year from the first preview out of town in Los Angeles, which was September 6th.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.

Actually ...... The cast is signed for a year from the first public performance in NYC. The LA run of the show was on a completely separate contract. The principals are signed for 1 year from the first public perf on Broadway. :)
T-39 minutes till a ROA fan comes in and tells of how 9 to 5 will close on Labor Day.
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
Allison Janney told me at the stage door 3 weeks ago that she had signed on to the show for a year. The cast recording and photo shoot for the book were supposed to have taken place the week of Mother's Day.
"so if allison is in the show for a year when will she be in the show until?"
Your question wasn't answered?
"The cast is signed for a year from the first public performance in NYC. The LA run of the show was on a completely separate contract. The principals are signed for 1 year from the first public perf on Broadway."
Do the math. Probably till sometime in March/April. I forgot exactly when the show opened.

"?9 to 5: The Musical,? another show with no wins at the Tonys, is also counting on word spreading that it is one of Broadway?s few new musical comedies.
?There?s no talk whatsoever about closing the show soon or this summer,? said Robert Greenblatt, the lead producer of ?9 to 5.? ?We?re a great destination for tourists and people visiting the city.?"
Wouldn't it be a year from when they started NY rehearsals? (Just asking.)
