They loved 9 to 5, Shrek and Billy yet pretty much snubbed West Side Story (only Best Revival and Karen)
I find it interesting that Billy Elliot wasn't nominated for Best Set of a Musical. I think 9 to 5 should win anyway, but usually the big blockbuster musicals of the season find themselves into every design category. WAY TO GO 9 TO 5!!! WOOT! Also, interesting that the Drama Desk committee denied the request for joint consideration of the Billy Boys. As a result, they weren't nominated at all. (Also, why is Daniel Breaker in the leading category?) And poor Harriet Walker.
LOL...yeah because Story of My life and FELA are real shots to get a tony nom.
Well no...clearly not. But 9 to 5, Shrek, and Billy Elliot took 3 of the Drama Desk spots, so they very well could take 3 Tony spots. And the 4th spot will most certainly go to Next to Normal. Honestly the only chance Rock of Ages has will be in the Shrek spot, but if anything takes it away from Shrek, it will likely be [title of show] since the nominating committee is full of New York based theatre people who like artistic theatre.
Now that he's been nominated by the Outer Critics Circle, the Drama League, and the Drama Desk awards, I'd say James Barbour has a good shot at a Tony nomination. Anyone agree?
My avatar = A screencap from Avatar, arguably the greatest animated show of all
Congratulations to Brian d'Arcy James for 2 acting awaard nominations: one for best actor in a musical and one for best featured actor in a play. He really is an amazingly talented man.

It's hard to say. Assuming Will Swenson and Brian Darcy James are still nominated and that the Billy boys will get a spot, it only leaves two spots open. My guess is that one of the will go to J. Robert Spencer for Next to Normal. It is very possible that Barbour could take the last spot assuming it doesn't go to Gavin Creel or Matt Cavenaugh.
the drama desks are 8 theater people. Real diversity there. Tony nominating comm is 26 people. I think it might be a little different. And why is N2N a lock? or 9-5 who will get avg to bad reviews?
