So, whenever the show was dark was when they flew to LA to pre-record the routine. I don't know how those pre-recorded performances are done w/ an entirely different audience than on Monday or Tuesday... unless it'll be recorded tomorrow in the AM? IDK. There's "live" TV for ya!
it's being done the same way A Chorus Line did it last year.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Basically, they taped it yesterday, and probably pull down a screen or something for the live audience to watch. We aren't supposed to know that it isn't live because we get the picture from a video feed.

It just seemd out of place, as well as out of context. with all those terrific professional female dancers on that show, these gals failed in comparison. though the blonde on the right seemed pretty hot tonight. Olivo still doesn't command that number, and never will.
As a promotional device for the show, I think it did its job. In terms of showing off the choreography, it just didn't work. Ballroom and the dance styles that they do on the show are just so much more... showy, for lack of a better word, that the Robbins choreography loses its resonance.
And I think she's fantastic, but Karen Olivo's voice just does NOT translate outside a live performance. When I saw the show, her singing blew my face off. When I watched this performance, I just... winced a little bit.

The quality of the performance on DANCING WITH THE STARS does not matter. What DOES matter is that a Broadway show just got more exposure than possibly any Broadway production ever has. It's good for Broadway. Be happy for that.

I would think that the average audience member watching this show would much rather go to a DWTS live arena event than go to see WSS on Broadway. The ballroom dancing is just so much flashier and fun given it's discipline. And that performance did nothing to convince them otherwise. Updated On: 4/14/09 at 09:21 PM
I think they did a good job. Might of not been as good of a job as they do on broadway every night but you can't really compare them to the other professional dancers from dancing with the stars. There not ball room dancing for one and the ball room dancers don't have to worry about singing while there doing all the crazy lefts and crap. Updated On: 4/14/09 at 09:29 PM
i totally agree with you broadway122 my eyes always go to the blonde! she has much engery and really puts her all into the dance! i enjoy watching her!!
the part of the dance that karen always looks like she is half doing is when they swing there legs back and forth and then swing there knee back and forth. everytime i see her do that part she just looks board out of of energy doing it! i hate that!!
