John 'Uncle Jesse' Stamos cast in Roundabout's Bye Bye Birdie?

I was flipping through channels about five minutes ago, and stumbled on E! News. They were interviewing John Stamos and he said that his next project after ER was Broadway. He then said he will be doing Bye Bye Birdie, but I didn't catch what part he said he would play. Conrad or Albert? Hmm.

I can't imagine him wanting to play Conrad. What an odd piece of casting, especially when I thought there were so many other people that seemed more appropriate for the role (the Workshop's Gavin Lee or David Hyde Pierce).

I'm not a huge fan of Stamos, but can we please get beyond the Uncle Jesse thing?

The man has done a lot of varied work since Full House went off the air, both on Broadway and television. It's not as if he's done nothing at all since Full House.

My name is neither "adam" nor "greer."

I'm not at all opposed to the idea of him as Albert.

Like everybody in Hollywood, I'm sure he's had some work done. He looks good, but not good enough to pass for a teen heart throb being drafted off to war. I could see him as Conrad 20 yrs ago.

Conrad makes more sense than Albert to me...but it would seem that they would want to cast someone younger?

'Tis a puzzlement.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

John "Uncle Jesse" Stamos is mean. John "Broadway Box Office Poison" Stamos is more contemporary.

findingnamo, box office poison? i'm pretty sure that nine wasn't a commercial hit with the original revival cast and cabaret did just fine with him.

birdie will be a hit regardless because it's a roundabout production.

He's playing Albert Peterson, per Roundabout.

Only an idiot would think of him for Conrad Birdie as Stamos is already past the mid-40's mark.

God, he's gorgeous. I hate Bye Bye Birdie, but if I wasn't poor...I think I'd cough it up to go see him.

BrodyFosse123, where did Roundabout confirm the casting of Stamos?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Albert is not that interesting a role, IMO, to me it's Rosie the one lead who really steals the show so I'm more intrigued about who they cast or are thinking of casting in the lead.

Hopefully they won't need a "star" for Rosie now. There are so many talented Broadway females for the role.

Really? Albert? I don't see it. BUT, there is NO way he could possibly still pull of Birdie. (And why would he want to?)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
