I've seen the show but don't recall this. When do they do these poses? At the end of the show or the end of act 1?

I sat around that area in the orchestra and thought it was a great view. Close enough to see facial expressions/details, but just far away enough to get a good overall view of the sets, choreography, acting on stage. Enjoy the show!

I saw the show tonight. I really became aware of deeply flawed it is, but I had a great time anyway. As flawed as it is, it's really fun. re: Shine Like the Sun: 9 to 5 Broadway Thread! It was full cast except Justin Patterson as Dwayne, Jessica Lea Patty as Maria, and Gaelen Gilliland as Anita. It was good to see that the cast is still having so much fun with it.

I heard that the cast recording is now available at the theatre. Does anyone know if that is true? If so how does it sound?

I was there last night and they had the CD for sale...I think it was $25. I heard one of the cast members at the stage door say that Dolly had a listening party for them last week. I didn't buy it so I can't say how it sounds.

The show itself was great! I actually thought Meg Hilty WAS Dolly a few times. The whole cast seemed to be enjoying themselves and the audience was eating it up. Overall, it was a great night of theater!

Can you elaborate on what flaws you see in 9-5? I am just curious what you think is considered a 'flaw'?

I bought the cast album at the theatre this past Saturday night and it sounds AMAZING! I bought the new souvenir program as well (the Broadway cast, not the LA program). If you buy the CD ($25) and the program ($20), you get "9 to 5" post-its for free. All that I can say is BUY, BUY, BUY THIS CD!!!

The vocals are completely new, nothing from the promotional tracks, and there are subtle differences between the two. The only downside is that the album information will not show up when I play the CD on my computer, so you'll have to wait another week until it shows up on iTunes to get that info.

Finally saw the show Thursday nite and I loved it. All the cast was there and each one did a great job. Going to have to go with Stephanie as my favorite and her 11th hour number as my favorite song from the show.

I don't like knowing too much about a show before I go, so I didn't know many of the changes they made from the movie to the stage, so I was even surprised by a few moments in the plot (which I won't spoil for anyone).

9 to 5's flaws in my opinion:

The choreography (godawful), the book, the score (fun but forgettable), the direction, etc. I think the creative team got it almost completely wrong and it could have been a much better show than it is. It came across as amateur to me.

I don't think that choreography & score can be flawed. They are what they are. There CAN be something wrong with the book, but score & choreography are on their own. They don't rely heavily on what happened previously.

I hope that made sense.

The thing I love most about the show (besides the actors) is the choreography! I think the staging is well done with the insane amount of props and sets and everything moving around. I find the dancing to be spectacular. I'm just curious, is there a specific part where the choreography is flawed? (if that sounded snarky I'm sorry, I'm honestly curious)

And yeah, the score isn't the best, but I love how old school Broadway-y it feels! It follows the old rules (ie, Overture!, opening number that introduces all the characters wonderfully, an entre'acte, a big 11 o'clock number, and a closing number that ties up all loose ends. It's not perfect, but it is almost completely different than anything else on now, which IMO is a little sad.

Toxic, that made no sense whatsoever. I've seen community theatre choreography that was much better than the choreography in 9 to 5. It's just bad. Sorry. The score is fun enough but I find it to be bland and forgettable except for "Get Out and Stay Out." Definitely not Dolly's best work.

flip, I don't know how to describe the choreography except that it seemed like a community theatre choreographer was trying to create cool moves and failing. Updated On: 7/6/09 at 04:36 PM

Thinking that choreography is bad or the score is forgettable isn't a flaw. It's an opinion.

Then I guess it's a "to each his/her own" because I don't think the choreography fails, although I guess I understand a bit of the trying too hard (i.e. Spencer Liff's roundoff backhandspring backlayout and aerial are great, I don't find them necessary). If I revisit (which I hope to) I will try to watch it from that point of view.

Elphba3, I agree with you (although I love the show, which is why I posted on this thread) BUT many of the songs are bland and forgettable, but the overall show is so much fun.

It's my opinion that the choreography is terrible and the score is forgettable.

I loved the choreography, especially the way it flowed with the set changes. Also after seeing it a few times I noticed that during the last scene when everyone is saying the "where are they now" bits the choreography matched the character speaking which I loved!

Fun show !!!! The average joe isnt as hung up on book ,score ,and if its better then some summer stock show you have seen as you "theater people "are .Its a fun,fun time and it makes people forget about all the B S in life . Thats what a fun show does ! Alphaba3 obviously has a tony or 2 and thinks he/she knows good dancing/chereograhpy when he/she see's it from those harsh comments !Its def opinion not flaw !
