The 1992 revival rocked the boat for me, I found that it got the heart and soul of the show. When other productions try to play it straight it's a huge snooze fest, at least to me - none of the jokes work. Faith Prince and Nathan Lane were hilarious!
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
I am kinda excited to this...mostly to see how Oliver and Lauren are...but still, I am excited
I wish to high heavens that I was around for the '92 revival. I love that cast recording, and I love Nathan and Faith, but I would have been about 2 years old then.
I wish I could have seen that revival as well. I know the costumes were stunning, as we rented them when we did the show at my high school in 98. I've disliked every design for Bushel and a Peck since. Nothing can beat those chorus girl chickens.
I love that it's set in the '30s! The look works for this show. And the era does too.
Check out the Frank Capra movie "Lady For a Day" (1933) with a lot of cross-over Damon Runyon characters, and you'll see how well it works.
Love this photo, except Lauren's dress which seems a bit "wrap around skirt '70s" for me. A little too "Music and the Mirror." But the color is great, and everything else looks very nice.

"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
It's definitely set in the thirties. Those are thirties costumes. Now if Lauren Graham can sing, all will be great. Obviously Kate and Craig are legit singers and the role of Nathan was designed or a man who could not sing one note (and I've heard some great stories about Sam Levene, a sour-faced comedian whose career stretched all the way back to "Three Men and a Horse" and earlier in the 30s and 20s).
BTW check out the FANTASTIC photo collection from the original production on IMDB. Type in Guys and Dolls and choose the original show. There's a photo, click on it and see 26 amazing shots from 1948.
