Inspired by the 'naming my firstborn Norbert' thread, a TV show with kids named after Fiddler on the Roof characters, and a girl whose parents named her Cosette after the character from Les Miserables.

Are there any actors or characters from the Broadway universe who you would honor by naming your children after them? (If you're the non-reproducing sort, then... well, say they're adopted.)

I was named after a character from a trashy novel my mom was reading when she was pregnant with me. I guess Broadway figures wouldn't be any worse?

What, no one named Elphaba Wendla Marquez yet? Why, I'm shocked!

I would personally name my child... Chauvelin Enjolras Czolgosz. He'd probably die of shame before learning to pronounce his name correctly. (SHO-vel-lahh awn-zhol-RAS... oh, I give up!)

Or maybe I'd name him Aldolpho. Just so he could sing "I Am Aldolpho."

Sophie has always been my favorite name for a girl. It just happens to be in Mamma Mia! so that should count.

Ah, how could I forget Hedwig! That one's a keeper!

My favourite name for a girl has always been Lucy. Unfortunately, that's the crazed beggar skank from Sweeney Todd, the obnoxiously bossy little girl from You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, and the Mary-Sue female lead in A Tale Of Two Cities.

I have seriously considered using 'Marius' as a middle name for a boy, though, because I just absolutely love that name-- as well as Les Miserables.

I've never really liked Marius (the name that is)

When I first read it, I would always read "Marcel" for some odd reason, which is a name I like a bit more.

I'm not sure if it counts but I named my cat Elphaba Ozzie, I wouldn't give a child a name like Elphaba but I think it works for an animal. I mainly call her Ozzie though.

That's what Madame Thénardier did to her daughters ... re: What Broadway-Related Names Would You Give Your Children?

Marius is nice. It is (or at least has been) fairly common in Norway. There's even a type of knitted sweater by that name. re: What Broadway-Related Names Would You Give Your Children?

One of my kids is getting the middle name Raulesparza. It's gonna be her middle name so she can hide it if she desires. But I'll always know. =D

Ha, Salene, I've always gone around saying that as well! Luckily, my name is not Eponine-- if it was, I'd jump in front of a bullet, too.

Roseaddams, I have a stressball named Michael Stress Ball (with that written on in ink). It creeps people out.

As a teenager with a "Phantom" obsession, I used to want to name my daughter Christine. re: What Broadway-Related Names Would You Give Your Children? But ever since my favorite cousin died, I've wanted to name a daughter for her instead (Michelle). Of course, I might have two daughters . . .

My sister used to talk about naming a daughter Cosette, but she's never had a girl and probably isn't going to.

Ohh, my friend never told anyone what her middle name was. All we know was that it started with an L. I found out the other day what it was and I nearly pissed myself laughing.

La immaculadad concepcion.

That's spanish for, "the immaculate conception."

lol, ohhh god.

A former Les Miz cast member told me that people would always tell her and other members of the cast how they had named children after characters. One fan went as far as to name her daughter Eponine Cosette.

I almost named my dog Elphie. Updated On: 1/2/09 at 07:49 PM

Whoa, there are Les Miserables fans who can stand BOTH Eponine and Cosette? I thought Eppie-boppers and Cosette fans were two polar camps who stood across a room from each other glaring at each other.

I have a cat named Dulcinea -- my kids would be confused when I yell at her and call her Aldonza instead! And my car is named Demetrius (Shakespeare).

but doing that to my children? My husband would have put a bullet in my head.

I know. This was my reaction. I was shocked... and sickened. If you are going to give them a Broadway name, especially ones like Eponine or Cosette, which aren't common and are clearly named after characters, at least give them one normal name.

Like Mary Cossete, or Eponine Ann.

This is off-topic, but one of my other fandoms is the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, and one of the characters is named Moist von Lipwig. He's a lovely character, actually my favourite, but I couldn't help but feel revolted when someone online declared, in total seriousness, that she was pregnant and considering naming the child after Moist.

THAT is the most horrific thing I have ever heard.

I think Nessarose goes lovely with Norbert.

My mother's name is Maureen __son, rhymes with Johnson. How many times do you think I sang tango to her back in the day?
