I think that there is a chance that we could be really surprised when the reviews come out tonight/tomorrow morning.

I have a quick question, and I didn't really want to start a new thred so I guess I'll just put it here:

What time is the opening performance? On the website it has that little count-down thing to when the show opens and it says that it opened like 5 min ago-but doesn't it have a show tonight!?

So after all that:
What time is the opening performance?

I know this sort of begs the question, but on the assumption that 13 does get creamed by the critics, what kind of effect will that negative feedback have on the performers involved? Yes, I know, they're charging Broadway prices so the public is entitled to a professional show (I agree) but I'm looking at this from a humane point of view. I'm pretty sure that the critics will go relatively easy on the individual performers, no matter how inexperienced (or whatever) they may be and, yes, if they're in this business, they better wake up fast to the harsh realities. However, I would be willing to venture a guess that some of these kids have not had "normal" childhoods and this experience could be emotionally devastating to a young mind. Just my thought.

The performances themselves are really not that bad. I think we may be surprised and the reviews will rock. I personally loved this show. But I think the critics would pick more at the materials and not so much the performers. They may speak about the cast as a whole but I doubt pick at one.

If anything, if the show gets trashed it might show them at an earlier age the difference between a quality, well-staged show and the opposite. That can only be good, as they grow older they may become more mature and selective performers.

Eamonn Foley has the revivals of Assassins and Gypsy under his belt. That's not being selective?

They were asking about the impact on a cast of youngsters, not on the token "Broadway prodigy".

Eamon is an amazing performer, and out of all the guys, I see him as having the best chance in the business. But I cannot wait to see how it is received by the critics!

I have a feeling that the critics are not going to bash these young kids if they don't like the show. If anything, they will blame the director, writers, and producers, like they did with Glory Days. There's no fun in killing the hopes and dreams of young talent, especially if some are quite talented.

i agree with most of the people in this thread regarding what the reviews may be....

i saw the show on the free teen dress rehersal and i absolutely LOVED it!...and this was before any cuts were done and the show was cut into a one act.

i too think that critics will bash more of the materials in the show. for example a lyric in a song is:
"so who can complain, except for you becuase your jewish and you always complain but no one says no to a boy with a terminal illness"

i think the above lyric nees to deffinitely be taken out of the show. how can you have a song saying that because your jewish you always complain? or that no one says no to a boy with a terminal illness....it was kind of funny at the time of seeing the show but now that i reflect i can definitely see a lot of materials being misinterpreted and taken offensive to....

but overall i definitely would like so see this show end up successful! the kids are sooo talented and the show really does have a good story line and i can see it being very popular....because its different than the typical broadway show

yay for 13!!! haha

If the Critics trash the show today do u think they will post a closing notice and close b4 the end of the month? I know with Glory days they closed on opening night,

No, I don't think they will. Not all shows are like Glory Days, Look at ATOTC that got bad reviews and it's still on. Heck, even look at Wicked that got mixed to bad reviews and it's still running.

How I know when a show is closing is when there is a thread that coolkid wrote at the top saying "Closing night tickets for ________" and about 6 posts that say "Bump" Updated On: 10/5/08 at 04:55 PM

I think that depends on how sales are doing. Also, Glory Days didn't really have a target audience even though it pretended to. If 13 has a bangin' marketing team, they can certainly make this show as popular as High School Musical. Okay, made not as popular...

EDIT

That's the AP, and it is a mixed to positive review

"13" has obvious appeal for a tween audience and certainly offers sound advice for getting on with life. Its recipe for success comes at the end of the 90-minute musical, with the show's three lead performers deciding to put "one foot in front of the other and just keep walking on." Come to think of it, that's not a bad prescription for adults, too.
