I LOVE how happy Hunter looks in the background.

And that is SO sweet! Best of luck!

I hope I one day have a boyfriend with such grand romantic ideas.

I would totally say "nooo" in front of the hundreds of witnesses.

How did Shakespeare put it?

"I am Misanthropos, and hate mankind.
For thy part, I do wish thou wert a dog,
That I might love thee something."

That'll do. re: Photo Coverage: Spring Awakening Onstage Proposal

Too cute! Wishing them both the best.

But like, proposing onstage is so lame compared to the possibilities of marrying onstage or giving birth onstage... soooo I'm not impressed.

Except that that is pretty cool. Would not want a proposal that way, personally, but it was thoughtful.

That's pretty cute...but could start a really bad trend.

There was an on stage marriage proposal at a performance of THE WEDDING SINGER a few years ago.

At least it was sort of appropriate for that show.

The first time I heard "Grow Old With You" in the movie, I cried. Is that pathetic? Maybe. I could see a proposal after that number.......since that's the plot anyway.......

Oh dear. What if someone had the idea to create a musical or a play that involved a wedding, and every performance two chosen audience members could have their actual ceremony onstage as a part of the show? The actor would, of course, be legit.
THAT would be a bad trend.

"Would not want a proposal that way, personally, but it was thoughtful."

I wouldn't either. Many consider a public proposal to be bad luck.

I know of someone who wanted to do this at a different show a few months ago but they couldn't because neither of them were equity so management wouldn't allow them onstage.

There was also an onstage proposal during Spelling Bee, and an actual wedding during the Drowsy Chaperone.

I can see Spelling Bee happening really well (was it during the show, too?) but how did they do The Drowsy Chaperone?

Spelling Bee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWwNKVrhpSU

And I'll post the Drowsy Chaperone video when I find it.

EDIT: I am positive I saw a video, but I can't track it down. Here are some articles:http://www.playbill.com/news/article/96605.html

Call me a sap, but I think this is INCREDIBLY romantic. Maybe not for the average person, but for someone who loves a show as much as she apparently does, I think the proposal was entirely appropriate... I want mine to be along the same lines... :P

I think it's a great idea, actually I already thought of it and was planning it for a show in October now these turds stole my thunder. Oh, well I'm gonna try it anyway because my girlfriend will love it and she doesn't know about this proposal.

And j/k about them being turds, I wish them best of luck.

A proposal after a play where the female lead dies from having a botched abortion.

Isn't it romantic?

lol, Yankee, my thoughts exactly. SA just does not seem like a particularly appropriate show for a proposal.

I think it's really nice, even though the content of the show is weird for a proposal, the point is that she's a huge fan of the show and he paid attention to that.

I understand that people will disagree with me, but MY OPINION is that public proposals are simply awful - a really hardcore piece of emotional blackmail and not very considerate to the hundreds of witnesses who neither know nor care who you are, but will unfairly hate the object of your proposal if s/he dares say no, so s/he has to say yes. Even if I were being publicly proposed to by someone I *did* want to spend the rest of my life with, I'd say no anyway, because it wouldn't feel like I was being given a legitimate choice. Not just because I'm a super-biotch. I want someone to ask me to marry them because they want me to choose them to be with forever. It's very much a two-way thing.

Anyway. I'm just explaining why I don't like the idea, so you realise I have valid reasons and am not just being cynical. I don't expect anyone to necessarily agree. ^_^

I've always wanted to see a public proposal where the person turned it down.

I, personally, would never propose to anyone in a public space - for risk of embarrassment - but only for the fact that I'd be embarrassed doing so. I, after all, hate when people sing "happy birthday" to me in restaurants.

But to each his own. Mazel Tov to the happy couple.
