I'm listening to this right now and I have to say this is *the* DEFINITIVE recording of this classic score. They've included so much that's missing from the other recordings.
I'm also happy to have those additional 7 songs that were written for but not used in the show.
There's nothing like seeing this revival live but to have it recorded like this for posterity was magnificent!
Glad your enjoying i. Care to share where you got it cuz it doesnt come out til the 26th.

It could very well be the "Cast Recording of the Year". I'm completely in love with Tony Yazbeck's "All I Need is the Girl".
Just little things like for example, the inclusion of "Madame Rose's Toreadorables" and bits of dialogue sprinkled throughout to flesh out the songs or set up the songs make this recording unique and fresh.
I've been jumping around. Laura Benanti's "The Strip" is great. I love the way the stripper yells out "Gypsy Rose Louise"! after the announcement! LuPone's "Sing out Louise" is well... "chilly". Benanti's initial shyness and akwardness as Louise in the beginning of the song and her transformation into the confident, sexy and beguiling Gypsy Rose Lee shines. The performances are captured perfectly and they all shine on this recording.
Some cast recordings fall short of representing what's on the stage but I think this recording of GYPSY captures all the magic, excitement and dazzling performances of this revival. I predict it will win the Grammy. Updated On: 8/19/08 at 05:04 PM
Bernadette's recording also included the final dialogue. And I thought the final dialogue was just a B&N bonus track for this recording? Or is it on the regular version?
Seriously ... If your choices are more dialogue, or include "Seattle to LA," the complete "Broadway" sequence and seven cut songs... who chooses "more dialogue"?
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
"So basically, this thread was started so that the OP can brag about how he got the leaked CD. Lovely. "
No, COOOOLKid. I'm sorry *you* feel that way. But that wasn't my intention at all. I'm sure when you get your copy you will agree with me that this is one of the best cast albums to come out this year.
I know some of you actually do have offical copies (Smaxie, Ry.)
But those in this thread downloading it illegally from The Singing Stage (I assume) or somewhere else - I REALLY hope you buy the actual CD when it's available. Updated On: 8/19/08 at 05:10 PM
Dialogue is sprinkled throughout the recording but just enough to give you a feel for what's taking place, setting up a scenario, etc. It was a nice touch.

Honey, it's easy to find this. However, I don't see why you would post about it BEFORE it gets released to the public. If you downloaded it from one of those amateur LJ groups, why don't you keep the discussion there or WAIT until it gets released officially? (Assuming you're going to buy the CD since you're raving about it.)
