It's a close call between opening night of Showboat way back when, or opening night of Oklahoma.

UGGGHHHH. Hard question. Carrie, Follies, Merrily We Roll Along, Oh Brother, Moose Murders, Portofino.... I dunno. So many flops, so little time.

Trust me you do not want to waste a trip back in time on Dance of the Vampires! I saw it and if my partner would have let me leave half way through the show, I would have.

Shenandoah because I would want to observe a teenage me seeing his first Broadway show.

Wow. A true treasure chest of choices. I CAN'T pick just one show!

-Opening night of WEST SIDE STORY
-Opening night of SHOW BOAT (1927)
-Opening night of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN (Starring the Merm)
-Opening night of HAIRSPRAY (I know..it hardly measures up in comparison but it's my favorite and the OBC was amazingly talented). To see Harvey's Edna would be worth the trip back alone.

Pretty difficult question - but my pick would have to be the OBC of Hello, Dolly!

How about the Australian cast of THE SECRET GARDEN, with Anthony Warlow and Philip Quast

That would be pure heaven (for me anyway re: If you could travel back in time and see ONE show... )

More to add:

--"More Than You Deserve," Off-Broadway, 1973 (to hear that score and see Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman's first real collaboration)
--"Dude" (really...could it have been that bad? the show did well for a while in stock until Ragni passed away and the rights went to limbo)
--"Chess" (London, not Broadway)

The original production of Inherit the Wind at the National (Nederlander) with Paul Muni, Ed Begley (Sr) and Tony Randall. The magic of that production enraptured the audience and the memory of that matinee has never left me.

There are so many performers that I would have loved to see perform live. So many old Broadway shows I wish I could have seen. To choose just one? I fear I will be left wishing to see all of the other ones even more?

I'm picking Ben Vereen in Pippin but only because I haven't seen the show yet.

I really enjoy Showboat but it always reminds me too much of slavery in this Country. I would have loved to see it on opening night but I know, I would leave it feeling blue, like I always do whenever I see this show.

Your stomachs are going to churn when you read this, but if I could go back to see one musical it would be Jane Eyre. Other than that I would have loved to see the The History Boys and the Orginal London Cast of Les Miserables.
