Is a musical film called "Bob: The Musical" about a guy (who I'm convinced is based on my best friend) who hates musical theater. Bob wakes up one morning and discovers his entire life has turned into a musical. Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel have written the script. Mark Waters ("Heathers") will direct.

That sounds amazing.

A little known fact is that in the original screenplay, Pan's Labyrinth was Pan's FLAByrinth. Hmmmmmmm...glad they changed it.

Sounds like the Man in the Chair's alter ego (and a coincidence that the original Man in the Chair was played by BOB Martin).

Reading that brought to mind "Once More With Feeling" (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and I immediately started smiling. If it works that well it ought to be great!

This film project has been in development since 2003. Great to finally see it moving forward as I like the concept. Glad to have you aboard, Marc!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Be careful what you all say on here. He might come and scold you for misinformation.

Now that's all very well, but Marc Shaiman should really be concentrating on getting the Olivier-triplicate London cast of Hairspray recorded before they disperse, and it joins the embarrassing list, alongside Sweeney Todd and On The Twentieth Century, of amazing London casts that went unrecorded.

Ganz and Mandel are very funny writers whose work should be a nice fit for Shaiman.

isn't there a stage musical called "Joe!" that has the same concept? I wonder if the two are related in anyway.

When Marc Shaiman is able and allowed to, he will always let his friends here know what's going on. He always has and always will.

There's "Joe!" by Dan Lipton and (I believe) David Rossmer, about a guy named Joe who hates musicals who inexplicably wakes up to find himself in one.

There was also short running Broadway show in the early '70s called "Smith!", about a botanist named Smith who hates musicals who inexplicably wakes up to find himself in one.

I've heard that "Smith!" was actually fairly good but was poorly produced. "Joe!" has been lingering around development hell for years.

There's really nothing new under the sun.
