In Variety, Herman elaborates on the buzz surrounding a "Hello Dolly" revival produced by the Nederlander Org, who produced the "La Cage" revival.
Most interestingly, he gives responses to names the interviewer throws out.
"He acknowledges eyeing Queen Latifah to play Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi, but says her busy film career would make that casting problematic -- at least so far.
Chat rooms and theater insiders have been volunteering casting ideas that range from the fantastic to the obvious: Oprah Winfrey ("An exciting idea, but I don't think she could devote a year to the production," says Herman); Meryl Streep ("She can do anything."); Barbra Streisand, star of the 1969 screen version ("She's the right age now, but she's never coming back to Broadway."); Patti LuPone ("Magnificent."); Reba McEntire ("I'm crazy for her, but I'm not sure about the accent."); Bernadette Peters ("We were close friends and I obviously love this lady, but I just don't know.")."
And we were all thinking Bernadette would be a shoo-in and Patti's recent public comment about her interest in Dolly was far-fetched...
I guess Bernadette Peters and him aren't close friends anymore? I always thought they had kept a solid relationship. Oh well. Hasn't she turned down the role before? I could do with LuPone as Dolly Levi, but I think it's a better fit for Peters.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Normally, I'd say go for LuPone, but Queen Latifah being eyed seriously for the role is too hard to pass up. I would love to see what she does with it if this comes to pass.
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

I want to apologize for some offensive messages posted on this board under my name. The night 0f 12-15-08 I did not have internet access, and someone had used my name to post something offensive. My avatar was also changed. I dont' know what else was posted, or if anyone recieved bad PMs, but I want to apologize for that. I've changed my password, and even though I was not the one posting these messages it still needed to be corrected.
It's been more then 10 years since the last one ('95 with Channing)... so, I think a revival would be a good thing

"Who says you can't bend over backwards and eat bugs if you want to? I guess the bugs would probably say you can't do that that, but assuming that they are willing and consenting bugs, then there's no problem. Let's wig out eating bugs."

The thought of having Dame Edna Everage play a role like this isn't as far fetched as you'd imagine. Back in 1978 "she" was actually considered as a possibiltiy for the role of Miss Hannigan in the original Australian production of ANNIE.
Where is Dollypop? Surely he would have someone interesting to contribute to these suggestions, in fact if I were producing he would be my first port of call during casting discussions!
Lafifah, after some truly awful movies, needs a legit career boost. This would be it and she's be fabulous.
I can see LuPone in the role, but I agree with Joe, we'd be in for another message board full of people freaking out like the role was written for her!
