For me, there were three sartorial standouts (although I still have many more pictures to get through, so the list could increase).
Gina Torres - looked gorgeous! Kerry Butler - I just plain loved that dress! Andrea Martin - WOW.
I feel kinda bad about the Billy Elliot who had his t-shirt tucked into his trousers; NOT a good look, sweetie! XP
Quite a lot of black dresses this year; I give mad props to anyone who avoided that trend. Although I can excuse Laura Bell Bundy for probably wanting to get away from pink.
Laura Benanti looked like she could be at the Golden Globes or the SAGs. And that's a GOOD thing--too often, theatre folk looked horribly unkempt and disheveled at red carpet events.
Props go to Patti for not falling out of her gown for once
"You're the worst thing to happen to musical theatre since Andrew Lloyd Webber!" --Family Guy
"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.
Kitzy's Avatar du Jour: Kitzy as Little Red Ridinghood in her college's production of "Into the Woods"
It's kind of difficult for a godess like Laura Benanti to look bad though, right? She's stunning.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE:Passing Strange (7.17.08), [title of show] (7.18.08), [title of show (7.19.08 M), [title of show] (7.19.08 E), The 39 Steps (7.20.08 M), Damn Yankees (7.20.08 E)
I can't quite make up my mind on Maria Tomei's; I think if it didn't have the belt, or had some sort of sash instead, I'd love it. But the belt puts it on the fence for me, and I can't decide which way it's going to go...
Laura looked FABULOUS. I also thought that Brooke Shields, Christine Baranski, and Deanna Dunagan looked wonderful. I was actually a little surprised about how GOOD Patti looked. I love her to death, but her fashion choices at the Tonys usualy leave me concerned.
Laura Benanti looked absolutely gorgeous in that dress. When I was walking to the 50th street subway station last night, I passed by Ruby Foo's and saw Laura (holding her Tony Award) and Stephen Pasquale walk into the restaurant where she was greeting with the entire place cheering for her. I guess that's where the GYPSY afterparty was held. I am so happy for Laura, Boyd, and Patti...all three deserved their awards!!
I thought Laura Linney looked very serene and elegant. Laura Benanti looked fabulous as well, but her dress kind of reminded me of the one she wears in the final strip (with the one shoulder strap.) That made it a bit tacky for me. Updated On: 6/16/08 at 01:04 PM
Finally something that is flattering and is age appropriate. It looked more like a Fall dress than a Spring dress, but the neck line was not too deep. The hair could have been better though, but I'm not complaining.
