What Musicals are Left to Be Made into Movies? |
To the producer of Wicked: Don't EVER turn the show into a movie... EVER!
Rant, Wickud, Rant, Wickud, Rant! We're not gonna pay Rant! 'Cause everythink is Wickud!

URINETOWN will probably never be made into a movie...and it's to perfect so why mess with it? It wouldn't work on screen, IMO.
And WICKED is inevitably going to be made into a film. Sooner or later.

Current Avatar: Cynthia Erivo, bringing down the house in The Color Purple.
Obviously it's hard to tell who could sing these songs since inevitably "hollywood" actors would need to be most of the cast to actually you know...make money, but in terms of acting I would cast:
bare
Peter: Anton Yelchin or Adam Chanler Berat
Jason: Kevin Zegers or Jonathan B. Wright
Ivy: Evan Rachel Green or Leighton Meester
Nadia: Morgan Weed or Ellen Page
Matt: Tyler Hilton or Hunter Parrish
Claire: Christine Baranski or Elizabeth Perkins
Priest: Martin Donovan or Brian D'Arcy James
I would like a movie version of Company with Neil Patrick Harris. He can definitely do the bachelor aspect (HIMYM) and I think he could sing it.

Man In Chair: Roger Bart or Bob Martin

Janet: Amy Adams
Drowsy: Catherine Zeta Jones
Gangsters: Luke & Owen Wilson
Trix: Queen Latifah
Feldzieg: Jim Broadbent
Kitty: Liza Minelli
George: Nathan Lane
Mrs Tottendale: Liz Smith
Underling: Tim Curry

Your casting for Urinetown is fantastic! I love the idea of Will Arnett as Lockstock.
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
I think The Scarlet Pimpernel would be a fantastic movie-musical. I can't really think too much of casting, but I would love to see Terrence Mann "return to the screen" (AHAHAH if you want to call it that) as Chauvelin again, which he may be too old.
Please producers. No Wicked movie. Don't. Just don't.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.
They will make it into a movie. Just watch.
Hunter: Your teeth need whitening./ Heidi: You sound weird./ Jeff: You taste funny.

Yes, producers, don't make a film that potentially could make millions in revenue no matter how bad - please, people...
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
Wait, wait...Hunter Foster as Boq!? That would be such a waste of talent.

Of course Wicked is going to be made into a movie at some point. I'm not sure why people are even "begging" them not to do it. It's the biggest hit Broadway has seen since The Lion King opened. With its wide appeal, it would assuredly do better than Hairspray, or even Chicago.
That being said, there's not the slightest chance in the world that Stephanie J. Block would be asked to play Elphaba in the film. They'll get a much more recgnizeable "name" than that. Amy Adams is a fine choice for Glinda, though. Fiyero will end up being someone like Zac Efron, or even Efron himself.

Who could play Elphaba that's a recognizable name?
They'll play up that it's an "unknown". It could be like Hairspray, where they held a huge open casting call.

"I told you, NO Rodgers and Hammerstein!"- Bart Simpson

They could get someone from American Idol, and play up the "now an actress" thing like they did with Jennifer Hudson.
Or, they could get someone like Christina Aguilera, who at the very least could sing the sh*t out of the score.

That belonged in the other thread, but...

Jersey Boys:
Frankie Valli: John Lloyd Young
Bob Gaudio: Daniel Reichard
Tommy Devito: Christian Hoff
Nick Massi: J. Robert Spencer
Joe Pesci: Michael Longoria
Gyp DeCarlo: Jack Nicholson
Norm Waxman: Robert Patrick
Bob Crewe: Tom Hanks or John Travolta(maybe)
Mary Delgado: Reese Witherspoon
Francine: Amanda Bynes
And there would be cameos by the real Frankie, Tommy, Bob Gaudio, Bob Crewe, and Joe Pesci.
Bat Boy:
Edgar: Johnny Depp
Shelly: Amanda Bynes or Kristen Bell
Merideth: Helena Bonham Carter
Dr. Parker: Jim Carrey
Reverend Hightower: Sacha Baron Cohen
Mrs. Taylor: Meryl Streep
Sheriff: Christopher Lee
I can't think of anyone else for Bat Boy, but I think it would be great if Tim Burton directed it. It seems like a musical that would be up his alley along with Little Shop of Horrors.

BARE would be an excellent indie movie musical (lets face it, it will be a cult classic not a box office success)
i'm pretty positive that they will make a wicked movie, at the end of the day they want to make money. wicked will make money.
to be honest, the film version will at worst just be 'fine'. they will have a lot of the original team on board...so its not exactly going to be a train wreck.
i reckon, to get the most out of the film...they either should go with an amazingly talented unknown for elphaba (i highly doubt they will ever chose a 'big name' for that role) or they could go down the road of having a younger cast for the first shiz part, then the OBC for the second part.
elphaba-
younger: lea michelle.
older: idina menzel (they have a striking resemblance)
glinda-
younger: someone that can pass as a young cheno. (as much as i hate to suggest her, hayden panettierre does have the look/height down for that)
older: kristen cheno.
fiyero-
younger: i think they should go more with the book on this one, a more 'ethnic' look. aka not blonde and blue eye'd and total jock which is inevitable tbh.
older: not fussed. go with OBC if in doubt.
the rest could be 'big names'. it doesn't much matter to me.
