Hmmm, sounds interesting, wish this was coming to London aswell. I have an exam on this on wednesday for my A levels. I'm suprised it hasn't killed my love of the play like most studying of literature does, but it has made me aware of Miller's seeming inability to write humour. And also, is it just me, or is Ann a rather undeveloped character? Or just, not a very consistent one.
**spoiler**
She doesn't visit her father in jail for years thinking him to be guilty, and when she essentially finds out he isn't, she still says nothing or makes no mention of how she's just abandoned her father for the past three years. Eh. I don't like Ann.
Lithgow and Weist are great casting. I love this play. The PBS version with Jame Whitmore and Michael Learned was excellent. I wish I had seen the Kiley version.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Not my favorite play, but with this cast it is definitely worth seeing again. Let's face it, Patrick Wilson in the cast means that I will find a way to see this show.
I hate to say this, but as much as I love Lithgow and Weist, Wilson is the main draw on this one for me. Gotta support a fellow Virginian...amongst other reasons (including his talent)!
I don't see Katie Holmes being a big ticket draw for this. I think Lithgow and Wiest would draw a lot more people to go see this than she would. Tom Cruise's films haven't performed all that well at the box office since his couch incident on Oprah, even his recent multi-show interview with Oprah didn't do that well.
This could be the thing that brings Katie Holmes' career and reputation back, I think. I'm definitely excited.
"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."

Rotel, I agree. Similarly, I have been very shocked that Country Girl hasn't been a bigger draw with Freeman and McDormand. Yeah, there are the reviews, but Three Days got lousy reviews and it still played to packed houses...no doubt the Julia factor.
It seems like a rather "heavy" play for the masses, so maybe it won't be an incredible sell-out, though with the people involved, I'd be surprised if this didn't at least get good reviews.
