CRY-BABY getting nominated for Best Musical is an amazing accomplishment in the face of all the sharks that have been trying to attack it and tear it apart since day one. It is a wondeful show and obviously others agree. Guess some people remember that sometimes a fun musical comedy is just as valid as someting "cutting edge" or "different". ENJOY YOUR NOMINATION CRY-BABY. You are the deserving underdog.
Goes to show that many people on these boards either have an agenda or no clue what they are talking about. CRY-BABY didnt close in previews. It didnt get trashed by the critics (it had several raves) and now it got nominated for Best Musical. And already I see people posting obnoxious posts like clearly the producers bought the nom. What a bunch of bull that is. If you could buy a nom YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN would have led the nominations. So stop trying to spread posion haters.
***have edited my original post. I have decided I do not believe in tearing anybody down. I have see how negative so many are on this site. Every one involved in all these shows is an artist and I wish them the best. Congrats to all the nominations. I think South Pacific will be the biggest winner of the evening. Sorry to see Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Ali Mauzey, Sherri Rene Scott, Harriat Harris, Matt Morrison and Chris Hanke be left out but not everyone can be nominated I guess. Its been one unpredictable season.
Well it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

They wanted to fill the 4th slot, nothing more. And they weren't going to give it to The Little Mermaid nor Young Frankenstein. A Catered Affair wouldn't have benefitted much with a Tony nom, so they chose Cry-Baby. It had nothing to do with it being a good show (which it isn't, it's just not as bad as the other three).
yet again I fail to understand how enjoying a show that you dont like makes me a shill. But you seem to enjoy attacking me so if it makes you feel good go ahead.

Look up shill in the dictionary, hun. Then maybe you'll understand.

Everyone's going to be entitled to think a show deserves or doesn't deserve a nomination. But it would be nice for Cry Baby fans to be allowed to be happy over the noms. What is so terribly wrong about being happy that a show got nominated?
I'm especially excited because even though I don't expect it to win the best musical award, at least now it will get to perform on Tony night.
"But I can tell you that Raoul, who was so handsome in "The Phantom," is now a drunken wreck."
The show is a piece of crap. I smell payola. No other comprehensible reason why this insult to my hard earned money would get a nomination. I hate this show. I hate people that like it. I hate people that support it. And I HATE THE SHILLS.
Who is Stu? This thread makes me laugh! but I love it
I can see banners at the Marquis Theater for BEST MUSICAL!!!! at least we will get to see Rob Ashford's amazing choreography! and CONGRATS to CRY-BABY!
Let me just ask... the people who were posting 4 weeks ago who said they knew for a fact the closing notice had been posted...where they not obviously wrong? CRY-BABY is still here. it has not closed. So clearly they were lying. Why would someone lie about that other than try and hurt the show. Just asking

I don't really now how I feel about Cry-Baby, I personally woudn't pay money to see that show. That being said, I would like to see it to garner up my own opinion... but I probably won't.
And I agree, calling people "poison haters" clearly won't resolve the issue either. You have your opinions, as others do too. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, including yourself but ridiculing others because you are angry is not the way to solve it. You feel strongly for this show, as do others... but in the opposite manner.
Noel - even if they were lying (whoever these posters were), I don't blame them.
they just wanted to see the trash picked up. you know... clean the streets (or Broadway) of garbage and filth. it's reasonable. we want to see GOOD musicals on Broadway - not ****.
Jaystarr. Usually our reviews are well thought out and your opinions at least backed up... but didnt you say you have not even seen Cry-Baby yet? So how do you know what it does or doesnt deserve. Just asking. If you have seen it, I would love to know your thoughts since you dont seem to attack people like others on this board, but rather give reasoned responses.
No one said the show was closing. Just that a notice was put up. There is a huge difference. I have seen the show. I did think it was awful. I did find myself wondering how some things make it to broadway and others don't. I was actually kind of embarrassed for all involved.
