Job at theater? #1
Posted: 4/27/08 at 8:32pm
I was wonder how I would go about applying for a job selling Merchandse at a broadway theater during the summer. My job doesn't give me many hours now so I'm thinking about quiting and getting a job at a broadway theater seems like a good job for me.

Any advice?
(Also I'm not near enought to be able to go pick up an application so I would need to do it online or over the phone)

BTW I'm 16

If you can't go to the theater to get the application, how are you going to get to an interview or get to work???

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

dramamama611, they said during the summer. meaning they'll be available to work, just not at the moment

did you try looking for the theater's site or something?
I kind of doubt they'll hire someone under 18...but I don't know for sure.

You really need to know someone with connections to getting those kinds of jobs. Besides that, they definately wouldn't hire someone under 18.

If I get an interview I'd be able to get into the city but I live on Long Island so it's hard to just go in and hope they have applications.

I know what he said: but that's how the management would look at it. Only 16 and doesn't LIVE in the city?...not being hired. REALLY.

You're going to commute from Port Jeff to NYC everyday? A large chunk of the money you would make would end up going towards the train pass you'd have to buy to actually get into the city. And everyone so far is correct, your age and location would almost immediately get your application/resume tossed.

You're too young for the job and also, you'll be needing to go in for matinees and then night performances. If you don't live in the city, what will you do between the shows? Not worth the time and effort just to sell Skittles

You should print out your BWW threads and attach them to the application to show how articulate and knowledgeable you are.

You don't apply through the theater, you apply through one of the merchandise companies, there's Marquee Merchandising and Araca, and they employ all the merchandise people on Broadway for the most part.

The title of this thread made me think of Robin Williams in 'Mrs. Doubtfire'...
