NEW STUDIO RECORDING OF LES MISERABLES!

Hey everyone! It has always been a dream of mine to be in/record Les Miz. This past weekend I have gone into the studio and recorded 3 songs (Who Am I, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and Stars.) I would love it if you would come to my website and listen to the songs. The orchestrations are based off of the original London Cast Recordings. Hi...ok so I've listened. Do you want the honest truth here??
You shouldn't have attempted the accent. In "Who I am" it was distracting as it was just wrong. The others were pitchy. However, you can hear that you are passionate about this music. That being said, the voice didn't sound full enough to honestly carry off the music in this show. There's no resonance.

I hope you don't think that's rude. It's just my honest opinion. I teach voice, which doesn't mean my opinion is anymore valid that anyone else, but from a technical standpoint, I think you need to work on bringing out more power and resonance if you want to sing Les Mis.

I am not musically trained so can't comment on the technical aspects but all three songs are different characters in the musical with different voiced. I liked Empty Tables best, I thought that was the best fit for you but well done for having the courage to record your singing and ask for comments, hopefully the constructive comments from tigerlilly (and hopefully others) will help you be even better

Thank you so much for all of your constructive critiques. It's funny about the British accent thing (you're not the only one who says so) because I swear I'm really not trying to do one but with the intonation I'm trying to achieve after hearing the recordings for so many years I think its rubbed off. I can really do a hardcore British accent when I mean to. Maybe I'll make a recording for you with an intentional accent. I agree that Empty Chairs probably does match my voice the best because it's for a younger male singer and lately I've been singing more rock and pop stuff. This was my first attempt at ever trying to record music such as this and I guess it shows, but believe me I will work harder to make it even better for all of you. Thank you for your time and honesty and hope that you still enjoyed them.

The funny thing is that Colm Wilkinson isn't British, and doesn't have a British accent. He's Irish (although, now living in Canada, he had picked up a North American Twang). Many people try to imitate his unique sound, like Morris as Valjean on the Full Symphonic Recording.

And speaking of English (mine not being perfect by any means), the orchestrations are based on London, not off.

Sorry to say that (don't take it badly) but... Was it supposed to be British English???
Are you an American native speaker???
At the beginning of "Who am I?" (without reading the thread), I thought you were trying to imitate a French native speaker trying hard to speak English but without success (the insistense on long vowel sounds like /on/. I am puzzled !
When it comes to "Stars" > Sorry it is OFF-KEY most of the time !
