$50? They used to be $80 apiece.

I have one, and I love it! It comes with a CD of the contents (different from the OBCR), so you don't have to have a record player to enjoy it. However, I brought my record home once to play on my parents' record player, just because, and it was great. MP3s and CDs really can't recreate that full LP sound. However, after listening to it that one time, it is going in a frame and on my wall.

It's a fun thing to have, but the enjoyment (for me, at least) is in having it, not listening to it. The booklet and artwork are all of the "original" 1928 cast. I got a kick out of reading them.

If you didn't see the show, get the CD of the cast recording.

The LP is different. It was a limited edition recording of the "original" 1928 show. It is basically the recording of the show within the show. So, while the OBCR has Man In Chair's interjections, comical skips, and other surprises, the LP is a straightforward recording of what is supposedly the 1928 show that the Man loves so much. Like I said, it comes with a CD of the contents if you can't play the LP, but the LP is not sold as a CD, nor is the OBCR sold as an LP.

I agree with Yero. For me, the record was definitely worth the $50. It takes out Man in Chair's dialogue and inserts other character's (who would've been in the 1928 recording). But ultimately you won't listen to it more than a couple of times if you already own the OBCR. So my enjoyment, too, comes from owning it, not listening to it. I have the record displayed with my other Drowsy merchandise and every-so-often I'll listen to it, just to get some use out of my record player :) Ultimately, whether or not it's worth the $50 depends on your enjoyment of (or in my case, obsession with) the show.

I have one from the original pressing and paid $99 for it. Its a great collectors item for serious collectors.

I paid $50 for one of the first pressing LPs. Kinda disappointed when they decided to make the "limited edition" not so limited by pressing more copies.

I love it because I loved the show...and I have a turntable so I can actually listen to it if I want. But it's the same as the CD so I never really play the record.

Did you buy it second hand for $99? They were originally sold for $40 and then went to $50.

Courtny - *almost* the same. I just want to be careful in case there's someone who has never seen the show and thinks they are the same thing.

True...they cut out the man in chair stuff. But no major differences other than that.

I also should have said it's that same as the CD that came with it. re: The Drowsy Chaperone vinyl good? so I rarely play it. Updated On: 3/13/08 at 09:11 PM

I know its a stupid price to pay but that was the only option channel i had to ensure i got a limited edition pressing.

So... wait. I don't have the obcr and i am debating whether to get the record or this. Does it come with The Man In Chair in the cd with it?

The skips are gone (unless your LP is defective). You don't get "Message from a Nightingale" or "I Remember Love." The finale is gone (the final song is "I Do, I Do in the Sky."

Again, I'm just being careful to keep the distinction because it could be confusing to someone who doesn't know the show well.

I bought a few of them when they were originally released for $40 each. It is fun to have - just not at $99!

Wickedboy2 that makes me feel better about the second pressing. Makes me think my first pressing copy is *slightly* more special. Not that I'm looking to sell it.

so i should just get the obcr because man in chair's lines were part of the reasons i loved it so much.

Does it come with The Man In Chair in the cd with it?

No. The CD that comes with it is only a CD of the contents of the LP, which do not include the Man In Chair because the Man In Chair is not a part of the original show from 1928.

Yes, I know there was no original show from 1928. But pretend there was. If there was, in fact, a show from 1928 called The Drowsy Chaperone that the Man In Chair played for everyone in the Marquis Theater in 2005, this LP (and the CD within it) are what the cast recording of the 1928 show would have been. Think of this as a really elaborate prop. This is the CD that the Man in Chair pulls from his collection and plays for you.

Some of the dialogue before each of the songs is different than what is on the regular cd release. Not Man In Chair dialogue but 1928 "show" dialogue.

I have one of the original 1000 pressings and got a few of the cast members to sign it. And I absolutely love it. It's one of my favorite theatre items. If you are a fan of the show, it is definantly worth it.

Okay, I'm lost...

I bought my LP from the souvee stand in the theater. When I bought it, the girl said there were only 1000 ever made. I forgot what number my copy is, but it's hand written and sealed inside the album cover. I paid $55 for it a few nights before the show closed, and at that point were told there were only about 9 or so left. Did I get an original one??

Not that I would know the difference at this point...:)
