I was watching Charlotte d'Amboise (you know where, he he) and I was wondering, how good does Cassie need to be during Music and the Mirror? Could she purposely be performing less than perfect, as a character who has been out of work and practice for a while? With energy but rusty?

I'm watching the revival for the first time on the 18th, maybe I'm worried it will be awful. I think it's a great show, and want to love it.

loveangela1 also has clips of Wanda Richert's Cassie...which makes Charlotte look good.

I don't think so. Cassie is supposed to be amazing, she is "too good for the chorus" and everyone expected her to be a star. If she performed her big number with less that 110%, it would negate everything we learned about her. Of course, the person playing Cassie could still suck.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.

Well, not that I think d'Amboise is bad, she does have a lot of energy.

Charlotte is just mis-cast. Granted, given her track record, you stand a good chance of missing her...

Cassie is supposed to be a stand-out, better than anybody in the line because she is simply too talented to be a chorus girl. To imagine Cassie you have to look at the Tony clip from PROMISES, PROMISES with Donna McKechnie dancing "Turkey Lurkey Time." You are in awe of her dancing, you CANNOT take your eyes off her, and she completely demands your attention. This is the kind of dancer that Cassie is which is why Zach can't stand to see her audition with the rest of the kids ("don't pop the head, Cassie").
"The Music and the Mirror" is supposed to be a marathon dance, and Cassie's chance to SHOW what we have been TOLD about her. The actress/dancer performing the song should be displaying a star turn at that moment. This is the marathon dance that made Donna McKechnie a Tony winner in a year where she was nominated against Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera. Cassie is not a rusty, old dancer who forgot how to stop the show, she is a star begging for a chorus role and "The Music and the Mirror" is the most important chance the audience gets to see WHY Zach believes she'll be too much of a stand-out for the chorus to work.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

I guess I was just trying to justify her singing and dancing - which is not bad at all...I guess I should stop watching videoclips, relax and enjoy. :)
