The Obama Campaign Is Reeling#1
Posted: 3/7/08 at 6:43pm
From Taylor Marsh's blog:

===

The Obama campaign and their supporters do not know how to handle the onslaught finally coming at their candidate.

In the clinches, the Obama team is way off message and flailing.

They've had a year of soft press and can't begin to comprehend the losses this past Tuesday.

Once again, as after Iowa and South Carolina, they were too busy measuring for Oval Office drapes.

Obama and his team are getting creamed and it's clear they simply can't get it together.

Regrouping is critical, though so far their reactions are still on what just happened instead of getting ready for what's happening right now.

Not a good sign.

What's coming at Obama right now is also minor compared to what the Republicans will unleash.

Besides, it's self-inflicted, all around.

i seem to remember a time not too long ago where hillary was screaming "meet me in ohio!" and getting boo'd with her comments of "xerox speeches"... she handled the pressure so well. :)

he wasnt creamed in any of those states... 52-48 in texas? lol. come on. the hillary people so relieved that she won (by a tiny margin) that they really think this is "a comeback".

listen i get it... anything to keep you at ease that shes still ok. even tho she cant catch up to pledged delegates... even tho she cant win the popular vote...

Obama-math never includes the people of Florida and Michigan.

The meme that says "she can't win delegates / she can't win popular vote" falls apart when you factor in Michigan and Florida.

It's an attempt at Intimidation-by-False-Arithmetic.

It's simply untrue.

It's just silly to pretend that this isn't a tight race with both candidates having the right to claim they have done well.

i agree jerby... which is why i would never say that. its a very tight race, but the math says hillary cannot catch up. and so it becomes a matter of superdelegates. do they vote based on their preference or do they go with the majority vote and what the people voted... obviously the rules say they can do whatever they want, obviously i think the appropriate thing to do is to vote with the people... but they can and will do whatever they please, and we'll all have to live with the decision. whether its our candidate or not.

i just hope that if they do go with clinton that it doesnt damage the DNC as badly as i think it would... because we dont want to have to wait 4 years for mccain to screw us over further.

Well, but you are saying otherwise. As the rules stand, the superdelegates have every right to choose how they please. And when they consider that she won

New York
California
Texas
Ohio
New Jersey
Florida---no matter what, it will be seen that she did
rural America, figuring the Dems in cities will vote for her anyway
and if she wins Penn...

...it's going to be very difficult not to choose her.

cuban,

The real interesting twist would be what happens if Clinton leads in the popular vote, but trails in pledged delegates.

I think both campaigns need to reign themselves in right now, and take a deep breath.

The tables could be reversed. The states could have voted in a different order providing a different perceived momentum for these candidates. That's why we have to wait for ALL the states to vote.

And then, yes, it's likely the superdelegates will have to decide.

I pray for a dream ticket. That would seem to be the best solution for all of this.

No candidate has the "math" to win without the superdelegates.

That is the point - who do you choose? One with the popular vote, or one with more delegates?

I hope that after all of this is done, one of them has both the most delegates and the most votes - then I would no object to the SD going to that candidate.

noooo... i'm not saying otherwise... my opinion might be that the right thing to do is to vote with the people, but i understand the rules are they can vote however they want... and so i dont argue that... even if it means it goes to clinton.

i agree with you youwantitwhen... i too also hope the same candidate gets both the popular vote and lead in delegate count, because if they split it then it'll be a mess... and if it is clinton i hope she asks obama to be her VP, and i hope he accepts.

and if its obama same thing. i just feel like they've ripped each other to shreds so much i cant imagine them doing it... but its politics. so i know it can.

You really think they've "ripped each other to shreds"?

C'mon!

Neither has come close to doing that. Just wait until the GOP goes after them full throttle.

I know what I look for in a president is someone who says, "That lady is mean to me!" and then a bunk of clucking mother hens get all puffed up. I like my president to be afraid of women.

I'm curious what you guys think is the reason the Democratic Party is being ripped to shreds.

I don't think either candidate is to blame.

I do think it's our lack of patience for this process---and that it's been such an imperfect process makes it all the worse.

But as for a race being so huge? I think that's been good for our party and keeps us in the press. Hillary and Barack are the rock stars, not John McC.

I don't see the Democratic Party being ripped to threads. The Republicans would like you to think that and the media loves that kind of story. The Democratic Party has not been this energized for quite some time. There have never been so many new voters being brought into the process and mostly on the Democratic side. What's happening now, IMO, is very good for democracy.

Unprecedented voter turnout.

Unprecedented fundraising.

More passion than a presidential campaign has inspired in decades.

She doesn't need to overtake Obama in delegates. He will not have enough to get him the nomination come August. This nomination will be obtained by each candidate convincing super delegates that they can beat John McCain in the fall. Hillary will take the nomination in August. Obama would be eaten alive by the Republicans. Ask both Clintons, they have taken everything thrown at them and are still standing. Obama has been treated very softly up until now because the Democrats want to appear united but he is not ready to stand up to such scrutiny just yet. In 8 years, he will be unbeatable.
