Wah wah waaaaaaaaah.

You know, I've never actually been to Monterey. Or Half Moon Bay. Is Half Moon Bay the place with the gigantic pumpkin patch?

Yes, it is! :)

Monterey is fun. Carmel is good if you want something a bit quieter.

Fisherman's Wharf is a big ugly tourist trap.

I agree. Avoid at all costs. Fisherman's Wharf is not worth a visit.

Another place to check out is the North Beach neighborhood. Some great galleries and delicious restaurants there.

absolutely disagree.......and say that as a former SF resident. EVERYONE should visit Fisherman's Wharf once, it's a SF must......Ghirardelli Square, the Cannery.....definately do it.....and go smell the seals on Pier 39

as to these

Holy Virgin Cathedral (never been)
2. Victorian Homes at Pacific Heights (go by in a cab)
3. Fisherman Wharf (yes, no matter what others say, do it)
4. Lombard Street (again, a cab...takes 5 min)
5. Saints Peter & Paul Cathedral (wonderful)
6. Chinatown (fun, but not much diff than NYC)
7. Yerba Buena Gardens (Golden Gate Park is better)
8. Museum of Modern Art- I want to see Picasso' s Women of Algiers. (SF MOMA is FANTASTIC)
9. Castro Theater (wonderful)
10. Mission Dolores (fun, there are better missions, but fun)
11. Golden Gate Park - Japanese Tea Garden (yup)

I agree, as well. Not seeing Pier 39 when going to SF, makes no sense. It's a great place to visit, wander, take in the sights and spend a wonderful day.

You can take the F LINE from the top of Market at The Castro, all the way down to Pier 39 and, truly, see most of the city.

Jay, carry quarters with you for the Metro. Bill changers are impossible to find. SF is my favorite city -- I go out to visit friends once a year for a week. I think I've done and seen it all.

I like the wharf. It's cute. The musee mechanique or whatever it's called is interesting, and I like sea lions and In-N-Out Burger. C'mon, you guys know that any place that has an IN N OUT is a happy place!

2223 is near where you are staying Jay. You'll love the B&B.....it holds special memories for me, and as I recall they are very helpful.
And definately have quarters (although I had no problem with change machines last month).,.....but always good to have quarters.

I sure will, Jay. I was in Boston in October for 2 days. Always wanted to go, so when I was in NYC at the time, I figured why not..........stayed at The Hilton in The Financial District. I could walk everywhere.......down to Bay Back Area, Prudential Center, Theatre District, Boston Park Plaza and Copley Plaza. A great city and a wonderful time!

Hope you have a great time, too.

We're getting married at Half Moon Bay! No date set, though. It's one of those "We'll do it when we can" things.

Jay*, you gotta check out this little coffee bar on Union Square. They've got great little treats and it's not too expensive.

You must see a movie at the Castro Street theatre. I met Tippi Hedren and saw THE BIRDS. It's gorgeous inside and even has a working organ. It's a great experience and I'll never forget it.

There's a Golds Gym in the Castro, too.

Metro and BART are pretty cheap. And the cards never expire. I still have $5 on a card from my last trip.

You gotta to to Boudin's Bakery and try the claim chowder in the bread bowls. They've got a location on the Wharf and another on Market street.

Have fun and take pictures!

Yup. I would definitely check Castro Street Theater- my book says.. on June ..they usually have Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.

Btw- What's the difference between Metro & Bart..which is the rail car?

BART is the rail system that goes to other parts of the Bay Area. The Metro are the street cars that opperate only in SF, and it's run by MUNI which also opperates the buses and the cable cars.

Hey, Jay..........yes, Boston is very walkable......I love that.........to be able to walk around a city and see everything that it has to offer.

The Boston Hilton in The Financial District was very easy to get to from The T. I took it from the airport and got off at the Aquarium stop. From there it was a 5 minute walk. I paid $175 a night. That's a very good rate.

Next time I go to Boston, I'll stay there again. Maybe, there will be a show in the theatre district that I can see.

The aquarium is really nice. I never felt bad for the animals like I did at Kelly Tarlton's in NZ or at the Baltimore Aquarium. Monterey is a great area, too.
