Musical Theatre BREAK UP SONGS |
When I got dumped (before this current and permanent boyfriend) the song:
A Fine Fine Line from AVENUE Q was perfect for the breakup
A Fine Fine Line from AVENUE Q was perfect for the breakup
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

The reprise of "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" from Pal Joey:
"Romance, fini.
Your chance, fini.
Those ants that invaded my pants, fini.
Bewitched, bothered and bewildered...
No more."

Haha, so this is so not appropriate, but I want to say Larry O'Keefe's sensitive song. Lol.
"Sorry she's your sister, but you're still a skanky whore!"

"Love Look Away" from "Flower Drum Song"
"Stranger To The Rain" from "Children of Eden"
Last time I had my heart really broken, I basically listened to songs that reminded me of all the happiness that I was missing out on, and the songs that I had deemed as "our" songs (as we didn't actually have any songs, as we actually hadn't dated).
There's a song on the concept album "Lunch" (DRG Records) called something like "Perfectly Fine Alone" that you might want to listen to

"A coherent existance after so many years of muddle" - Desiree' Armfelt, A Little Night Music
"Life keeps happening everyday, Say Yes" - 70, Girls, 70
"Life is what you do while you're waiting to die" - Zorba
Not sure if you count these, since they are pre-existing ABBA songs, but "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "The Winner Takes It All" from Mamma Mia!
Be On Your Own from NINE
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

One of the classics, perhaps THE classic:
"But Not for Me" (first in Girl Crazy, then in Crazy for You)
"Losing My Mind" from Follies (a GREAT song)
"Another Suitcase in Another Hall" from Evita
Not really a breakup song, but a favorite of mine and in some ways it fits:
"What I Did for Love" from A Chorus Line
