Family Guy Musical References#1

Is it just me, or does Family Guy reference musicals a LOT in the show. Does MacFarlane have any connections to the theatre world at all?

Not that I know of, but from what I've gathered he's a huge fan of musicals and music in general.

JKlock, I was laughing so hard I almost wet myself when they did that.

And I have notticed the Wicked poster being used at least 2 times in the show. And I am pretty sure they do an H.M.S. Pinafore bit too.

Here's what I have seen

Shipoopi

Peter driving his car into the theater onstage and killing a cat in Cats

Make Em' Laugh

Carol Channing boxing

Stewie singing "I have confidence"

I know there are more but can't remember many.

There was a cut scene from the show with Stewie singing "The Good Ship Lollipop" to distract airport security, which was followed by Osama singing "I Hope I Get It" from A Chorus Line

Not musical but, I loved Stewie hiding in the hole as Saddamm in the one episode.

I have a question about a scene from one of the shows as to what it is referencing, and I cannot figure it out, so I will ask you guys.

It is in the "Petarted" episode (the one where peter gets officially diagnosed as being mentally retarted) and they do that whole montage with everyone singing to eachother over the phones. What is that referencing? Or is that original?

Lake, I'm guessing that's a parody of the telephone song from
Bye Bye Birdie. ("Goin' Steady")

edit: I just looked at my CD. The song's name is "The Telephone Hour." Anyhoo, I don't think I've seen that episode, so that's just a guess.

I just saw an episode last night that copied the piano lesson from The Music Man, only instead of Marion and Mrs. Paroo and Amaryllis, it was Brian and Lois and her piano student.

I forget the episode but they inherit Lois's aunts house and they sing "This house is freakin' sweet!" a parody on "I think I'm going to like it here." from Annie.

And the King and I episode.

I saw an episode this week with Stewie's take on "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" from My Fair Lady.

I think that South Park does better parodies.

This isn't FG, but same guy behind it: American Dad parodied "Dance Ten, Looks Three." I forget what they changed it to, though.

There's also a "So Long, Farewell," scene in an episode where Mr. Weed comes to dinner.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Seth did have connections to the stage in some way. I think he could deffinitley write a great musical comedy.
