The score for Hairspray wasn't original.

Broadway Shows I've Seen: Hairspray, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors (2003), The Wedding Singer, Spamalot, Riverdance, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, Sweet Charity (revival), Drowsy Chaperone, The Lion King, Dreamgirls(2010 Tour).

I guess the less than a handful of songs written specifically for the film weren't worthy enough to voting members of the Golden Globes.

Hopefully the voting members of the Academy Awards think otherwise.

fnyboi, there were a number of original songs written for the film that were eligible.

I have not heard all the songs that were nominated, but I am sure Marc's songs were "worthy".

PEACE.

First they snub "Once" and now this. Shame on them

acutally fnyboi88 -- they had some new songs in the show and it could have been nominated for some of the songs. I thought Ladies Choice would be nominated. It was a great song.... and a major new plot point in Hairspray.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

I also loved "Ladies' Choice." It was upbeat, fun, and memorable... it's a shame it didn't get more recognition.

Yeah, Ladies Choice definitely was a stand out, and I'm not even a fan of the movie version of the musical.
