My favorite is the original "Frosty The Snowman", narrated by Jimmy Durante. Close second is "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town". What catchy music, and rather creative story!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

For me, Jack Frost. And I can't remember the name, but does anyone else recall the one that had to do with the leprechauns and it was something like if they didn't hide their gold by Christmas morning the banshee would get it?

I like the Sat. Night Live cartoon that shows Jesus walking through the streets, going into churches, and getting disgusted with all the TV evangelists. Then he comes across the Charlie Brown special on TV in a television show and then they show him happily dancing off to the Charlie Brown theme song.- Priceless. Maybe one of you techno geniuses can find that cartoon and link it here- it's great! Happy Holidays! mom

"The Homecoming" which ended up being the pilot for "The Waltons."

Makes me cry every damn time.

All the Rankin Bass stuff, especially The Year Without a Santa Claus.

I saw Nestor the Long Eared Donkey when I was little and I cried SO hard it scarred me for life. It was beautiful and moving but I could never, ever watch it again.

Never saw Nestor, blue.

Too many people have said the same thing. I'm afraid to watch it now.

Year Without A Santa Claus is my favorite of the TV specials.
Favorite Christmas movie is definitely National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, though. It's a family tradition. A Christmas Story too, of course, but Christmas Vacation just has that special quality...

mom, I loved the Robert Smigel TV Funhouse stuff. Can't find the Jesus one but the Tom Snyder/Dolly Parton Real Audio was hilarious. Here it is:

best, you've heard of it? No one ever knows what I'm talking about! I only saw it air once, while Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, etc., ran every year. Maybe parents complained?

Thanks blueroses. I thought if anyone could find the Jesus cartoon- it would be you. There was another cartoon a couple of years ago with Darlene Love singing about the Jews on Christmas- I thought it was funny. My daughter just showed me a Jewish version of Soldier Boy called Kosha Boy on youtube. It was hilarious! mom

*sniff* The eyes watered at that lovely gem. I always loved that song, and thought that was a lovely way to present it.

My favorite Christmas movie is the George C. Scott A Christmas Carol.

cturtle---after The Homecoming, those are my favorites too (in that order). And you can add Rudolph, after that.

EDIT: blue--It's on one of the DVDs I own... I think it's "A Year Without Santa Claus."

But I'm afraid to watch it.

Anytime, mom. Classic Smigel.

best12, it's worth watching because it was beautifully done, but it really traumatized me (and no, I'm not being dramatic) as a kid. I think that it might be harder to watch now, though, with my father gone.

cturtle--I love that clip!

This is another favorite, from The Monkees Christmas episode. They sound terrific:
