Happy Hanukkah! I lit (okay, turned on an electric) menorah but won't really be celebrating 'til I see my family this weekend. I sure am craving latkes now, though!

Blueroses,

Aww...enjoy your family. This is my first year alone for Hannukah, with all my family on the other side of the country (Couldn't afford a flight home). Its definitely not the same without them.

This will be my first Chanukah without my family too, Akiva. I actually wouldn't even know it is Chanukah if I didn't go to Jew U (aka Brandeis).

I still have to put out more decorations. We lit the candles tonight and both kids received books. My son got interviews with classical guitarists and my daughter got a book on drawing figues for fashion design. They both loved them. The whole family will be over Sunday for the traditional fry everything in oil party! Happy Chanukah to all! mom

Chanukah is a pretty insignificant holiday in Judaism.

The only reason it gets so much attention is because of the fact that it falls around the same time of the year as Christmas, so the greeting card companies and thingamabob corporations take it as an opportunity to cash in on a few more folks.

Plus it gives the Christ followers an opportunity to justify having Christmas parties at non-religious offices without feeling as though they are excluding anyone ("Holiday Parties" - Whatever).

Why can't we all just be human beings without all of this religious crap?

I know, because we want to play our roles as consumers, and waste money on meaningless things for zero purpose whatsoever.

It's the American way.
