Has there ever been so astonishing a talent?

I've always been a non-Barbra. I was the "M" in my "S&M" relationships, but that did my heart good. Thank you for sharing.

She seems like somebody who might've gone somewhere in another era.

More Early Barbra--the finale from My Name Is Barbra, a medley from Funny Girl, sung during the period she was doing the show on Broadway.

Here's the other solo from that May '63 Dinah Shore appearance: a spectacularly vindictive Cry Me a River.

Okay, here's some more archaeological finds on YouTube:

Baby Barbra 1961, The Jack Paar Show, hosted by Orson Bean with guest star Phyllis Diller: an awe-inspiring rendition of Harold Arlen's "A Sleepin' Bee"

A soaring 1962 "My Coloring Book":

A beautiful 1962 "When The Sun Comes Out" from the Garry Moore Show.

And 9 minutes from a September 1963 Bob Hope special. Dean Martin introduces her, she sings Anyplace I hang My Hat Is Home and Gotta Move, then does a comedy routine with Bob Hope.

She was the sh*t in the sixties (and early seventies).

And then she had to go give herself an afro in A STAR IS BORN and light it from behind like a neon halo and it all just went to hell.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing. ~ Muhammad Ali

Barbra after her Brolin marriage is a bore with some small exceptions.

I think she held her own; as abysmal a film is A STAR IS BORN, it was a huge hit and released at a time to secure her position as a contemporary artist.

If she needs to be slapped it is for her incredible laziness as an actress and filmmaker. So many good roles went to Fonda and Streep that Barbra could have done. She has an excitement on screen that Fonda and Streep have never had.

Even today she could have done SWEENEY TODD [how about Michael Caine as Sweeney?] but. . .

For those who doubt her mid-1970s output check out her fine 1974 THE WAY WE WERE and 1975 LAZY AFTERNOON albums.

On A STAR IS BORN the musical moments are for the most part very nice, especially "Everything."

Everybody "shut the F*CK up," as Barbra likes to say, about Middle Barbra and Late Barbra.

This thread is about Early Barbra.

What's especially wonderful about the Parr clip is so genuinely astonished and delighted she is by the audience reation and how delightful she is as a guest.

The Dinah Shore clip is less appealing to me. A big problem is the tinkly overdone orchestra, not really sticking to the classic Peter Matz arrangement.
