Court won't hear Elizabeth Taylor case...#1
Posted: 10/29/07 at 1:18pm
...over an allegedly stolen Van Gogh painting.

Taylor has no legal claim to it, if the family can prove it was theirs, prior to being seized by the Nazis.

That's as it should be. It's unfortunate for her, but she has no case here.

This is STILL news?

...that they refused to hear the case is the "news" part, Diva.

So, Taylor won, right?

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

I mean, La Liz didn't steal it.

She bought a painting and then found out later it 'might' have been stolen.

Why aren't they going after the person who sold it to her?

I guess because they won't hear it, she's won. They can't "privately sue" her for it.

But if the family can prove prior ownership, she would have to give it back anyway under the Holocaust Victims Redress Act.

EDIT: Exactly, Diva. Liz would be another victim of the crime here. The people who sold it and acquired a "hot painting" should be held responsible.

And if I had read the article in the first place...

"The painting is claimed by descendants of a Jewish woman who fled Nazi Germany."

See, THERE is where it's a problem. She left it. Yes, it belogned to her, but she left it.

Going after Liz just seemed like a publicity stunt. And why take it out on her? Ms. Taylor had nothing to do with it.

It would be like someone trying to sue me because the coffee table I bought was stolen from their Grandfather years ago.

I'm with Diva. What the hell were those Jews thinking just up and running without grabbing all their sh*t? Jeez, you'd think someome was rounding them up and putting them in camps or something.

I loved camp! By best summers were spent there. Learned many a thing, too.

No, that was addressed. No private right to sue is established by the Act. Ms. Taylor wins hands down.
