Who's Your Favorite "Edna" in HAIRSPRAY?#1

Sorry if this has already been posted; I searched and didnt' find anything.

For me, it would be between Harvey Fierstein and John Travolta (if he counts).

All my friends who've seen all the cast changes love Blake Hammond.

Paul is on the cover of Broadway Magazine! I was so excited.

you're kidding about john travolta, right? i couldn't STAND him in the movie...which is a shame because i usually love him.

if we're talking stage ednas, it has to be between harvey fierstein and (don't hate me) paul c vogt.

Stage - hard to say, I loved all the Ednas, but Paul Vogt is my current favorite.

Screen - Divine, but I'm enjoying more and more of the little things John does each time I see the film.

Who is Bruce Vilanch? Isn't he a colleague of Shaiman & Midler? That's a law firm in Long Island, is that correct?

Blake Hammond hands donw.

He was the only one that kicked leg in "Welcome to the sixties" and I LOVE that.

Bruce Vilanch was a fantastic Edna. But, out of ALL the Ednas (Including Divine) It has to be Harvey. He was perfect.

John Pinette is my favorite with Paul Vogt and Blake Hammond very close behind.

Harvey and Bruce were probably my least favorites.

Having never seen Harvey, hands-down, it would be John Pinette.

Really did not like Bruce Vilanch.

Favorite to least:

Harvey (perfection)
John Pinette (VERY close second)
Blake Hammond
Paul C. Vogt
Bruce Vilanch
J.P. Dougherty

I'd love to see Meaney (like that will happen) or Davidson go on, the latter of whom made an incredible Wilbur.

Travolta was one ugly woman. He was awful, and couldn't do anything to make me happy.

Harvey will always be #1.

Just watched Blake Hammond's Edna. Wow! He WAS a great Edna. Another example that you didn't need to alter your male voice to make Edna "all woman".

His kick in "Welcome to the 60's" was sensational as was his addition of those glasses for Edna.

Sheer perfection!

That DiGarmo girl should have originated Penny on Broadway. Talk about fitting the role like a glove. She didn't lose ONE laugh and her line deliveries were sharp. Her vocal stylings in the "You Can't Stop the Beat" number were -- 'nuff said. Wow! Too bad Kerry Butler was around back then instead of this DiGarmo girl.
