I am sixteen right now, and I've always been involved with theatre. I recently made my way to London to see Wicked, Les Mis, Phantom, Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot.
If I go to NYC for my birthday, what shows would you recommend? I'm wanting the real awe-factor for my first Broadway shows :)
Broadway is a very special place, filled with very special people - people who can sing and dance, often at the same time! They are a different people, a multi-talented people, a people who need people and are, in many ways, the luckiest people in the world.
I've heard a lot about Spring Awakening and I've heard some of the music and loved it, is it as good as it's hyped up to be?
What's Spelling Bee about? It's the show I know the least about, out of the ones you've mentioned.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
Well I'm 16 and the shows that I really enjoy are are Spelling Bee,Spring Awakening, and Drowsy Chaperone. Spelling Bee is about what the title says, a spelling bee. It's hilairious. I've seen it five times. Spring Awakening is about teens growing up in 19th century Germany and experiencing sexual awakenings, set to a score of folk/alternative rock music. Don't see it with your parents unless your comfortable watching movies with sex scenes and nutity with them. Drowsy Chaperone is about a man who is obsessed with a 20's musical called "The Drowsy Chaperone" and puts the record on and the show sort of comes alive in his apartment. It's very Brechtian, if you know what that means. You'll enjoy this is your a big theatre lover.
Other shows that people my age love are: Wicked Hairspray Rent Legally Blonde A Chorus Line Xanadu Phantom Les Mis Grease
"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster.
"Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."
I am 17 and love everything. I think age shouldn't be a factor in what you see once you are 14. Just choose what seems most appealing to you, because everything fits your age bracket.
How to properly use its/it's:
Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

I wouldn't want LB to be my first Broadway show, but that's just me...

First of all, happy birthday! I'm 17 and I would recommend RENT if you want something awe-inspiring.
I think Avenue Q is amazingly funny, but no awe-factor, so to speak. It depends on the type of show you want to see. Spelling Bee is a laugh too, but also doesn't have the same power that RENT does. (Of course, as you can tell from my name I'm a little biased, but what I'm saying is all true as well.) A Chorus Line probably would be a good one, very big and wow-factor-ish.
I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you see... I love it all too.

SweetQ, just remember I'm a 17 year old girl and while Wicked is a great spectacle I don't really like the show, and I have no desire to see Legally Blonde.
I stand by what I said before. And yes, you will likely like Spring Awakening.
