In Chicago this weekend?

THE SHOWGIRL of 52nd STREET, book & lyrics by Charles Leipart and music by John Kroner, is being performed this weekend as part of Theater Building Chicago's Stages2007 the annual festival of new musicals. SHOWGIRL centers on a homeless woman in NYC who was once a New York nightclub dancer and Hollywood starlet and who gave a daughter up for adoption.

Previously this summer SHOWGIRL was a highlight of The Theatre League's Kansas City Musical Festival. It was also selected for the Thousand Oakes (CA) Festival of New Musicals which plays the weekend of August 24th.

Kleban Award winner Charles Leipart is the bookwriter & lyricist of the Chase Mishkin production of LADY ON A CAROUSEL being planned for Broadway in 2008. LADY ON A CAROUSEL just finished a private industry presentation with a cast that included Meredith Patterson, Robb Sapp, Robert J. Spencer and Judy Blazer. He as also written book and lyrics for THE FROG KISS, THORSTEIN VEBLEN'S THEORY OF THE LEISURE CLASS, THE DOCTOR'S WIFE and ESPRESSO TRASHO, with music by Eric Schorr.

John Kroner is a composer, musical director and vocal coach. He has written musicals such as WONDERFUL LIFE: THE MUSICAL, AN ELEPHANT NEVER FORGETS: An Evening of Trunks Songs, RABBIT SENSE. He has composed special material for such talented performers as Nathan Lane, Charles Busch, Judy Kaye, Karen Ziemba, Randy Graff, Sutton Foster and Hunter Foster to name a few. As a musical director Mr. Kroner has conducted and or arranged many shows for Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional, international, stock and The White House.

you may want to post this on the Chicago board, theres some discussion of people going to Stages, and for that matter, people like myself, who are actually in this piece.

Yes, I have seen an earlier presentation of the show. Unfortunately, I won't be in Chicago to catch this one.

There is a terrific recording of one of the songs from the show, "All That I Am," by Karen Mason which can be found on BWW Radio (Web Radio under "Multimedia" on the left). Select the album "Lyrics By Leipart" from the Library.

BTW, on BWW Radio you can also hear Rachel York singing "When The Camera Isn't There," a song from LADY ON A CAROUSEL; Greg Jbara singing "Isn't She A Wonder" from THE DOCTOR'S WIFE; and Alison Fraser performing "Smoke" from ESPRESSO TRASHO and which she released on her last CD. All on the "Lyrics by Leipart" demo.
