no, I really don't. With lots of training and practice, anyone might be able to pull it off alright, but in order to be a truly GREAT actor, just like with anything else, you just have to be born with the natural gift for it.
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

I used to, until I attempted to direct someone who couldn't.

Then I shot her.

Based on some of the people who have been on his show James Lipton thinks so.

actually.. thinking about it... it's not so much that ANYONE can't act, it's that not EVERYONE act re: Do You Think ANYONE Can Act? a good actor can come in all shapes and sizes- so in that sense, anyone can act. But EVERYONE certainly cannot :)

(and I bet someone will recognize that I basically got that idea from Ratatouille haha)

But but but but but but but...

What about non-actors giving brilliant performances in films and whatnot?

Well, as film is a director's medium, yes a good director can make it seem that anyone can act. Eisenstein, I believe, proved that when he used the same shot of a woman with a neutral face and inter-cut it with different shots and showed it to an audience. Those that showed the the woman that cut to a shot of a meal said she looked hungry. Those who saw the shot with her and a baby said she was showing love, those that showed her at a funeral said she looked sad. Same shot of the woman, different setting. (I am picking those examples from my memory, so they might not be exact, but you get the idea.) That is when he realized the power of editing.
PEACE.

You don't need training or experience to be able to act. Several people have deservedly won or been nominated for Oscars without a single acting lesson or any previous acting jobs.

That does NOT mean that everyone can do it.

I believe that there is, or might be a role for everyone. So anyone can give an exceptional and/or decent performance. But, in a lot of cases it wouldn't be acting it'd either be playing yourself on stage or imitating someone you know or saw in a movie.
I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

What do you mean? If they give a brilliant performance in a film then it's an actor right? Only actors perform in films. Do you have an example?

Non-professional actors who have won Oscars:

Harold Russell - The Best Years of Our Lives

Dr. Haing S. Ngor - The Killing Fields

Jennifer Hudson - Dreamgirls

Tatum O'Neal - Paper Moon

None of them had any previous acting experience or training when they won the film industry's highest honor for acting excellence.

There have been others such as Oprah Winfrey who received nominations with no prior acting experience or training.

Does that mean that anybody can act, and anybody can do what they did?

Not remotely.

That's got to be one of the stupidest things I've read on the BWW boards. And I've read a lot of stupid things here.

And she wasn't a newbie when she won her Oscar. Among other things, she originated the part of Helen on Broadway first.

Why are you so mean? That kid in Jerry Maguire was nominated for an Oscar, too and that was his first movie too, I think.

To be an 'actor', you have to be...I don't know...able to just be truthful. The aforementioned 'non-actors' won because they were passionate about their projects and brought truth to them, without anything being hindered.
How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...
